Titanic = 1,500 victims. Vatican Titanic = 15,736 American victims of Captain John Paul II & Benedict Ratzinger. Titanic anniversary = Divine Mercy Sunday

Updated April 22, 2012

April is Child Sexual Abuse Protection Month.  What a coincidence because it is (also the 100th anniversary of the Titanic) also the 10th anniversary of the Vatican Titanic sinking in moral bankruptcy because of  its two Captains John Paul II and Benedict XVI whose titanic anniversaries also fall in April, wow, God has his or her won way of showing how the roads to Rome or the Vatican are paved with the JP2 Army – John Paul II Pedophile Priests Army or B16 Army - Benedict XVI Pedophile Preists Army.  John Paul II’s death (and spectacular funeral) falls on April 2nd, and Benedict XVI’s birthday and rise to the papacy are in April.  The Jesuit-janitor of Opus Dei, Fr. Lombardi, wrote about “The Pope’s Eight Year” (see new update below) but what he fails to mention is that Benedict XVI in April has gone back to his old self of being God’s Rottweiler when he silenced Irish priest Fr. Tony Flaherty upon his return from sunny Cuba, read our related article,  and then on his anniversary as Pope, he is attacking American nuns, read our compilation here .  So much for the Vatican Pied Pipers article about his trip to Cuba where he was supposedly to have been as “Benedict’s gentle debunk of clericalism”   God’s Rottweiler is now mauling Irish priests for speaking up and American nuns who are busy helping the sick and poor while Benedict XVI and his Opus Dei eunuchs are living the lifestyle of the rich and famous and mighty at the Vatican Ivory Tower.  Less we forget that Ratzinger also silenced the Jesuit Jon Sobrino fopr speaking out for the poor through Liberation Theology because if the poor are awaken of their rights to prosperity, the Vatican Bank would not be able to hoard anymore despots' ill-gotten wealth, read about Jon Sobrino here .  This is what the Vatican is good for lying and deceiving people of worshipping false saints or Opus Dei Golden Cows like the blood of John Paul II while he was still alive,

Fr. Lombardi, the Opus Dei puppet wrote an editorial in the Vatican Radio on the anniversaries of Benedict XVI and he referred to “crisis of sexual abuse” without the defining words of committed by “clergy or priests”.  That is how vague he wanted to define the B16 Army – Benedict XVI Pedophile Priests Army named aptly after Ratzinger who together with John Paul II for 27 years covered-up and condoned thousands of pedophile priests.    In his long list of praises for his Opus Dei Boss, Lombardi began with a list Benedict XVI accomplishments with, “In these seven years we have had 23 international trips to 23 countries and 26 different trips to Italy...”  Really, the papal trips are Benedict XVI's greatest accomplishments just like rock star John Paul II's world trips and not once did he address his 2 evil Achilles Heels Cardinal Bernard Law and Fr. Marcial Maciel?  What papal trips and what about the "walking trip" of those Italian victims of the B16 Army or JP2 Army John Paul II Pedophile Preists Army -- who walked all the way across Italy to go to the Vatican doorstep to have an audience with Benedict XVI but they were flatly rejected by the Swiss Guards and Benedict XVI did not even bother to see how they looked like, and he had to travel to other countries to see how real Catholics look like?   On Holy Thursday Benedict XVI washed ceremoniously 12 men's feet, well, he should have washed the feet of those Italian Catholic victims of his B16 Army - Benedict XVI Pedophile Preists Army when they reached the Vatican doorstep, read about them here Benedict refuses to meet Italian victims of JP2 Army John Paul II Pedophile Priests Army but meets with rare Cuban crocodile

Lombardi is carbon copying  the same values of his predecessor Dr. Joaquin Navarro-Valls who orchestrated the hundreds of voyages John Paul II the Great and downplayed the “small percentage” of pedophile priests, read our related article Why John Paul II is Opus Dei's Patron Saint: analysis of conference at Holy Cross Pontifical University in Rome  Those narcissistic papal trips were more important than meeting with SNAP or survivors of those abused by priests.  It’s all about worshipping the Opus Dei Golden Cow John Paul II and Benedict XVI Ratzinger who were the captains of the Vatican Titanic is now sinking in moral bankruptcy.  It’s all about “the papal show must go on” so that people will continue to give all their dollars to worship before the Opus Dei Golden Cows of Popes, Cardinals and Bishops. Read our related article The 4 cornerstones of the Vatican: Narcissism, dysfunction, disconnection, elitism

Lombardi is doing exactly what the Prime Minister of Ireland said about the Vatican culture up to this day.  Lombardi is downplaying the crimes against humanity committed by Benedict XVI that are now before The Hague and he is trying to “uphold the primacy” of Opus Dei Golden Cow Benedict XVI and the pope’s power and reputation.  “The rape and torture of children were downplayed or 'managed' to uphold instead, the primacy of the institution, its power, standing and 'reputation'”…. "the Cloyne Report excavates the dysfunction, disconnection, elitism....the narcissism that dominate the culture of the Vatican to this day”. Read the speech here,

Lombardi mentioned the "Year for Priests, we saw the Pope to face with courage, humility and determination - that is, with a clear evangelical spirit - difficult situations, like the crisis of sexual abuse." but Lombardi is a LIAR because the Pope Benedict XVI Ratzinger was so proud as to blame the Devil in his Year for Priests spectacle at St. Peter's Square read our analysis of his homily here Eve and Benedict XVI blame the Devil. April 15, 2012, 100th anniversary of Titanic... 10th anniversary of Vatican Titanic with Captain John Paul II and co-captain Cardinal Ratzinger

It is quite a coincidence that today April 15 the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic falls on Divine Mercy Sunday, the feast when John Paul II died (as orchestrated by the Vatican) and it’s the devotion which he instituted and thousands of Catholics are praying the Divine Mercy Rosary and invoking the name of Opus Dei Golden Cow “Blessed” John Paul II , read our related article John Paul II Euthanasia: his last papal act  and Rosary could not defeat JP2 Army John Paul II Pedophile Priests Army in the 20th Century ... unlike the Battle of Lepanto in the 16th Century But what is amazing and is a blessing to our blogs is that  our mission is once again confirmed that we are right all along, that there is such as thing as a Vatican Titanic that is sinking in moral bankruptcy because the anniversary of the Titanic and the Vatican Titanic would both fall on the same month in April and that is when John Paul II also died on April 2nd and this year the Titanic’s 100th anniversary on April 15 falls on Divine Mercy which is today, the feast of John Paul II’s death and the feast which he instituted (to usurp the Sacred Heart devotion).
John Paul II wanted to go down in history as “JP2 the Great” who wrote the most books and articles – to be cited by Catholics and priests daily - and as the pope who traveled and was adulated the most but alas only to die after 27 years of papacy without condemning Fr. Marcial Maciel, the poster boy of his JP2 Army – John Paul II Pedophile Priests Army, and Cardinal Bernard Law, the poster boys of all Cardinals and Bishops who covered-up thousands of pedophile priests, read our related article The narcissism and grandiosity of John Paul II, Cardinal Bernard Law, Benedict XVI, and Bishop Roger Vangheluwe are nauseating and despicable
John L. Allen Jr wrote in Time Magazine that “Those inclined to give John Paul the benefit of the doubt argue that the church has been on a learning curve and it’s unfair to judge him by today’s standards. Further, they say, by the time the American scandals erupted and Maciel’s guilt became clear, the late pope was already well into his twilight…”  Alas, the Vatican Titanic was helmed by an old pope gazing only at his own Opus Dei “JP2 the Great” narcissistic image as he reached the final end of his papal life while at the same time he was rotting in his evil Achilles Heels of Fr. Marcial Maciel and Cardinal Bernard Law of Boston, read our related articles, John L.Allen Jr.Pied Piper of John Paul II deceives Catholics with his essay Fast-Track Saint in Newsweek -- with Vatican lunacy & Satanic timeline read his full article and our analysis here and read also our related articles Opus Dei Patron Saint of Pedophiles, Pederasts and Rapists : Prayer to Saint John Paul II = Opus Dei Pope #1.... And to note, 1 day after the 100th year of the sinking of the Titanic is the 85th birthday of Benedict XVI Ratzinger, April 16, and  on April 19, the other papal hand that steered the Vatican Titanic Ship Cardinal Ratzinger was elected pope.  April turns out to be the most revealing month of the Vatican Titanic that would coincide with the biggest fleet unsinkable in its heyday.  It took 3 years to build the Titanic and 3 days for it to sink.  It took 27 years to build the papacy of John Paul II and 3 years after his death, the American Catholic church has paid off 2 Billion dollars to victims of his JP2 Army -  John Paul II Pedophile Priests Army.  And April Titanic month brings the landmark on-going trial of Monsignor William Lynn in Philadelphia, read all article of the trial here .
Last year in May 1, when Benedict XVI Cardinal Ratzinger was proudly beatifying his criminal predecessor John Paul II amidst 4 million Catholics in Rome, President Obama commanded the annihilation of Osama ben Laden by 6 Navy Seals in Pakistan because it would coincide in May 1st the day of Hitler’s death announcement to the world.  It’s a good thing that there is a separation of Church and state and President Obama did not have to ask for Benedict XVI’s prayers or blessings – or approval – on when to end the life of Osama ben Laden, the leader of the 9/11 attacks in New York.   So with the total ignorance of the Vatican that claims to be the only official recipient of revelations of the Holy Spirit, (the Holy Spirit should know about all these important dates and coincidences) John Paul II went down in history as one of the three evil leaders of the 20th century who would share one day in common in May 1st read our related article 9/11 victims 3,000. And the biggest proofs that the Vatican Titanic Ship exist and is sinking are written everywhere especially with the Prime Minister of Ireland declaring before Irish Parliament that the Vatican culture of narcissim t exist up to this day, Irish PM blasts ‘narcissism’ of Vatican. The narcissism of John Paul II and the Vatican are one and the same   and Ireland’s closing of its Vatican Embassy in Rome.  Another coincidence is that the Titanic was built in Belfast, Ireland, and that it is Ireland who would spearhead the closing of their country’s Vatican Embassy in Rome, read our related article Vatican Titanic Ship hits icebergs in New York and Ireland !!!  Ireland leads nations to close Vatican Embassy…beginning the end of the Holy See! The 10th anniversary of the Vatican Titanic is also marked by 2 most important American landmarks – after all the victims of the JP2 Army is record number in USA alone, 15,736 American victims, not counting the hundreds of thousands of victims in Europe and South America.  On April 11, 2012, SNAP and CCR update the ICC filing with new developments and supplemental evidence. You can read the new filing here and our related article here Hague Is Asked to Investigate Vatican Over Child Abuse. Bravo to SNAP and the Center for Constitutional Rights!! Court Filing details .
And in the month of the Vatican Titanic in April the trial of Monsignor Lynn takes off in Philadelphia with heart-wrenching testimony from one of the victims, read our full coverage here  .  It is the landmark secular trial of the first high ranking Roman Catholic Church official William Lynn in Philadelphia for his cover-up of a JP2 pedophile priest, actually 36 pedophile priests, which is half of what Cardinal Bernard Law of Boston publicly confessed to transferring 80 pedophile priests.  William Lynn did exactly like Cardinal Bernard Law of Boston who admitted to transferring 80 pedophile priests but Law got off scot free as a criminal Cardinal when John Paul II papal farted at us Bostonians and he elevated him as archpriest of the St. Mary Major Basilica after we forced him to reassign as Archbishop of Boston. History is written in stone in the legacy of the evil Achilles Heels of Blessed John Paul II the Great, read our related article, Boston 10th anniversary and Bernie Law is still cloning Jesus in the Eucharist
So this is how the papal farts of John Paul II are paying off today with the Vatican Titanic Ship which he steered for 27 years together with Cardinal Ratzinger are now facing SECULAR courts of law because the Canon Law of the Vatican have proven itself heartless towards 100,000s of children and all and all that John Paul II and Cardinal Ratzinger cared about was their reputation.  As the Prime Minister of Ireland said, “The rape and torture of children were downplayed or 'managed' to uphold instead, the primacy of the institution, its power, standing and 'reputation'”…. "the Cloyne Report excavates the dysfunction, disconnection, elitism....the narcissism that dominate the culture of the Vatican to this day
John Paul II was obeying his “Holy Father” Escriva to ignore the Sacred Heart devotion propagated and revealed to the Jesuits and so he instituted the Divine Mercy with a scary image of Jesus without a human heart but with extraterrestrial rays instead as seen none other  by the Polish nun whom he canonized Sr. Faustina.   And the 1.2 billion Catholics are hooked into reciting these repetitive prayers that could not defeat the JP2 Army like the Rosary, read our related article Rosary could not defeat JP2 Army John Paul II Pedophile Priests Army in the 20th Century ... unlike the Battle of Lepanto in the 16th Century
It is quite a coincidence that as the Titanic is revisited on its 100th anniversary, the Vatican Titanic Ship is sinking in moral bankruptcy on its 10th anniversary since the Boston JP2 Army – John Paul II Pedophile Priests Army epicenter was revealed in 2002.  And what a Holy Week as Catholics celebrate the Way of the Cross of Jesus Christ, the Way of the Cross of the victims of the JP2 Army is also being revealed throughout the world in the trial of Monsignor William Lynn.  Ireland, where the Titanic was built, is the first country to officially close its Vatican Embassy in Rome.   Stay tuned for the final sinking of the Vatican Titanic when Benedict XVI will go into trial at The Hague and the Vatican is removed as a “country” from the United Nations….

April 22, 2012 update news

Vatican Radio
Celebrations for Pope Benedict’s 85th birthday and the 7th anniversary of his election to the papacy have now come to their end. The people of Bavaria will continue their celebrations, as many were not able to come to Rome. As the eighth year of the Pope’s pontificate begins, we believe it proper to wish the Pope all the best.

We share his hope that the dialogue with the Saint Pius X Fraternity will come to a resolution that bridges the gap without creating any new ones. We wish him well as he delivers a message of love and hope for families around the world during his visit to Milan. It is our hope that dissenting groups will hear his invitation to be in communion with the Church and receive this invitation with respect and attention, and with an understanding of its significance. We hope also that the journey towards renewal of the Church in Ireland, following an apostolic visitation to that country, will continue and intensify after the Eucharistic Congress in Dublin; and that, following the sexual abuse crisis, the Church may offer a genuine service for all society in the protection of children, with the commitment of the various Episcopal conferences, through healing, purification, and prevention. We also hope that Pope Benedict’s journey to Lebanon may give him a chance to spread a message of peace amid the tragic conflicts in that region, and offer encouragement to the ecclesial communities who are being tried there. Another wish is that the anniversary of the Second Vatican Council might be an occasion to promote the proper and objective understanding of the Council as a “compass for the Church of our time.” We hope that the Synod of the new evangelisation will enrich the Church in its mission with creativity and impetus. It is our hope that the Year of Faith will not only be filled with exemplary initiatives and beautiful celebrations, but that it will also promote a sense of renewal in the profound relationship between God, his Son Jesus Christ, and believers, against the ever decreasing awareness of the religious dimension of human life and mankind’s journey through history. We also look forward to receiving the final instalment of Pope Benedict’s work about Jesus.

Finally, the people of Brazil are busy in their preparations for the pope’s visit to World Youth Day in Rio De Janeiro, which will take place during the ninth year of his pontificate.

Fr. Lombardi editorial: Anniversaries

2012-04-14 Vatican Radio

85 years of age and 7 years as Pope. When, already advanced in age, Card. Joseph Ratzinger was elected Pope many wondered if after years marked by the infirmity of his great predecessor, his papacy would be as strong and durable as hoped for, and whether a theologian who had led a specifically doctrinal Dicastery for such a long time would know how to undertake the very different task of the pastoral governance of the Universal Church.

In these seven years we have had 23 international trips to 23 countries and 26 different trips to Italy, we have witnessed four synods of bishops and three World Youth Days, we have read three encyclicals and received countless other addresses and magisterial acts, we have participated in a Pauline Year and a Year for Priests, we saw the Pope to face with courage, humility and determination - that is, with a clear evangelical spirit - difficult situations, like the crisis of sexual abuse.

We read - something new and original – in his work on Jesus of Nazareth and his book-length interview "Light of the world." Above all, we have learned from the coherence and consistency of his teaching that the priority of his service to the Church and to humanity is to guide lives to God, the God who was made known by Jesus Christ, that faith and reason help each other in seeking the truth and respond to the expectations and demands of each one of us and humanity as a whole, that the marginalisation of God and relativism are serious dangers of our time. We are immensely grateful for all this. And we are still journeying with him, towards the World Meeting of Families and the Middle East, towards the Synod on the New Evangelization and the Year of the faith. In the hands of God, serving God and his Church.

A transitional papacy?

Vatican Insider
Many of those who voted for Benedict XVI in April 2005 believed his would be a transitional papacy. They were wrong. Here is a review of Joseph Ratzinger’s seven years on the Chair of Peter
Marco Tosatti

I am curious, in a way that might come across as slightly malicious, about one thing. I wonder how many of those who voted for Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger in April 2005 expected the Bavarian Pope to still be here among us seven years on. Despite his brisk baby steps which are made all the more uncertain by the problems he has with his hip and his right knee, Benedict XVI is still here and retains his eagerness to do things. Unfortunately it is a difficult question to ask let alone respond to sincerely. What many cardinals expected to be a transitional papacy is in fact turning into something quite different. It is turning into a foundational kingdom, created by someone who seeks to work silently, persistently and deeply.

How? Not many are aware of the fact that a great deal of Benedict XVI’s time and effort is spent on mysterious work which does not and should not attract the media’s attention but is fundamental to Church life: this is in order to prevent giving the media any negative reasons to start focusing on it any time soon.

Benedict XVI is adamant that the strength - and weakness - of the Church is found first and foremost in the dioceses, in local Churches. During John Paul II’s pontificate, the choice of bishops was often left to presidents of Episcopal Conferences, to nuncios and to other components of the central and local Churches. If what is told to us is true, - and we have no reason to doubt it is so - the Pope has, in recent years, been reluctant to sign anything. John Paul II delegated; he trusted those he worked with, sometimes unsuccessfully, as history has shown us.

Gerald T. Slevin, Update--Criminal Charges of Vatican Child Abuse Cover-Up

Jerry Slevin continues to be vigilant about what's happening with Catholic church officials and the child abuse cover-up, from a legal standpoint. He has just sent another outstanding statement, this one about SNAP's filing last week of new charges updating their previous filing of criminal charges against the Vatican with the International Criminal Court, for the Vatican's internationally orchestrated cover-up of sexual abuse of minors by Catholic clergy.

Here's Jerry's statement:

SNAP, the international victims advocacy network, filed on April 11, 2012 with the International Criminal Court (ICC) a 19 page letter ("New Charges"), plus supporting documentation, updating SNAP's prior September 2011 original charges ( "Original Charges").

The New Charges, include additional evidence supporting SNAP's allegations against Pope Benedict XVI (Joseph Ratzinger) and three top Vatican subordinates, Cardinals Bertone, Levada and Sodano. SNAP alleges this Vatican clique for years has been, and still is, orchestrating a worldwide criminal cover-up by Catholic bishops of priest child sexual abuse, including acts involving systemic rape, sexual violence and torture, of hundreds of thousands of defenseless children. These collectively would constitute "crimes against humanity" under the ICC treaty.

After SNAP filed the Original Charges, almost 500 additional victims from over 60 countries contacted SNAP with new allegations that SNAP has added to the Original Charges. The New Charges (accessible by clicking here) also contain brief and clear updates, with citation links, concerning other recent relevant developments since the Original Charges, including:

(1) September 2011: The issuance of the scathing and devasting report, "In Plain Sight", by Amnesty International Ireland, concerning the recent history of priest sexual abuse of children in Ireland and of the Irish government's "hands off" approach until recently to the Catholic Church hierarchy's and priests' appalling misdeeds;

April 15, 2012 news

By Philip Pullella
VATICAN CITY | Sun Apr 15, 2012

Benedict, one of the oldest popes in history, turns 85 on Monday, and on Thursday he marks the seventh anniversary of his election as successor to the immensely popular John Paul II.
Speaking to pilgrims and tourists in
St Peter's Square
on Sunday, he noted Thursday's anniversary and asked for prayers "so that the Lord may give me the strength to carry out the mission he has entrusted to me".
Benedict is already older than John Paul was when he died in 2005 and is now the oldest reigning pope since Leo XIII, who died aged 93 in 1903 after reigning for 25 years.
"His health at 85 is better than John Paul's was at 75," said one high-ranking Vatican official who reports to the pope regularly. "He is a very methodical man. He looks after himself and feels that he still has much to do," the official said.
The Vatican has announced that he will visit Lebanon in September and he may go to Brazil in 2013.
"I'm old but I can still carry out my duties," the pope told Fidel Castro during his trip to Cuba last month.
Still, Benedict is increasingly showing signs of frailty and fatigue, signs that are being watched carefully for their possible effect on the future of the 1.2 billion member Roman Catholic Church.
When he left for Mexico and Cuba, he used a cane at the airport for the first time in public, though sources say he has been using it in private for some time.
Last year, to conserve his strength, he began using a mobile platform instead of walking up the aisle of St Peter's Basilica.
The Vatican says it is to spare him fatigue and there is no concern about his overall health. His brother has said Benedict suffered two mild strokes before his election in 2005 and he reportedly suffers from high blood pressure and arthritis.
Where Benedict differs from his predecessors is that he is the only pope in living memory to discuss publicly the possibility of resignation, though others have done so privately.
In a book in 2010, Benedict said he would not hesitate to become the first pontiff to resign willingly in more than 700 years if he felt no longer able, "physically, psychologically and spiritually" to run the Catholic Church.
"Those of us who are over 75 are not allowed to run even a small diocese and cardinals over 80 are not allowed to elect a pope. I can understand why one day the pope might say 'even I can't do my job any more,'" said retired Archbishop Luigi Bettazzi of the north Italian city of Ivrea.
"I wish him a long life and lasting lucidity but I think that if the moment arrives when he sees that things are changing, I think he has the courage to resign," Bettazzi told Italian television on Saturday.
The last pope to resign willingly was Celestine V in 1294 after reigning for only five months. Gregory XII reluctantly abdicated in 1415 to end a dispute with a rival claimant to the papacy.
Every papal birthday or anniversary sparks talk of succession but there is no clear front runner to succeed Benedict, who has now appointed more than half the cardinals who will choose a new pope from among their ranks. Most are Europeans.
Since his election on April 19, 2005, succeeding one of history's most popular pontiffs, Benedict has been hailed as a hero by conservative Catholics and viewed with suspicion by liberals.
Elected when he was 78 - 20 years older than John Paul was when he was elected - he has ruled over a slower-paced, more cerebral and less impulsive Vatican.
While conservatives have cheered him for trying to reaffirm traditional Catholic identity, his critics accuse him of turning back the clock on reforms by nearly half a century and hurting dialogue with Muslims, Jews and other Christians.
He also has made a series of missteps that angered Jews and Muslims and lowered his popularity among Catholics themselves.
Before he was elected Pope, the former Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger was known by such critical epithets as "God's rottweiler" because of his stern stand on theological issues.
A quiet, professorial type who relaxes by playing the piano, the first German pope for some 1,000 years and the second non-Italian in a row has managed to show the world the gentle side of the man who was the Vatican's chief doctrinal enforcer for nearly a quarter of a century.
But two weeks ago he showed his resolve again, warning rebellious priests that he would not tolerate disobedience on fundamental teachings such as compulsory celibacy and a ban on female priests.
His papacy has been hounded most by the child sex abuse scandals. He has apologized to victims several times for the criminal behavior of priests years before his election but victims' groups say he has still not done enough to make bishops accountable.

The following was supplied by an Irish Catholic priest known to the Irish Central editors who did not want his name used for fear of retribution

Fr Tony Flannery, a founder member of the Association of Catholic Priests, has been "invited" by Rome to take some time out to consider his position.

He has been one of those who have been calling for reform in the Catholic Church in such areas as the role of women, ecumenism etc. It is not possible to speak about "reform" in the Church , be it in Ireland or elsewhere, without bearing in mind the ever present elephant in the room, namely the roman Curia and the Papacy.

The need for reform here has been and remains paramount. No question in contemporary Catholicism, however, is proving more intractable and more acutely sensitive.

Roman control of the Church is now more centralised and rigid than ever before. It would seem that they now demand total conformity with papal ideas and ideals in all things and not merely in those which are essential to the unity of the Catholic and Christian faith. Those who hold this position seek to derive their theological, political, and even cultural ideals from the Pope and Curia of their time.
They frown upon legitimate local autonomy, regional diversity and freedom to explore issues of theology and Church policy  on which Rome is particularly sensitive. It has come to a point where the Bishop of Rome is regarded less of a bond of unity and charity in the Church than as an oracular figure to be reverenced in his person with quasi sacramental fervour. It becomes a tyranny whenever it successfully creates an atmosphere in which open enquiry and honest dissent are  construed as disloyalty or worse.
It is a form of fundamentalism, and it trivialises debate, particularly in the theological field by reducing all issues to questions of authority and obedience. Thus from the start the controversy over Humanae Vitae (family planning) there was a damaging ambiguity over whether the substantive issue was contraception or Papal authority.
The same has happened to such topics as infallibility, the role of women in the Church, ecumenical concelebration of the Eucharist and so on. One is left with the impression that these areas are simply off limit to any Catholic who cannot guarantee that his or her findings will support the contemporary conservative Roman position.
When one uses the term "Vatican II" nowadays, as far as many are concerned, one could well be speaking about the Pope's second residence. The period of the Council was certainly one which promised much, flashed with brilliance and yet was ultimately riddled with disappointment.
Initially there was a mood of optimism and buoyancy among many Catholic scholars. Yet in little more than a generation this noble exercise has become a debacle, a shambles. If John XXIII threw open the windows his recent successors have called in the triple glazers.
Vatican II seemed to promise a changed atmosphere. Many of us welcomed the new openess, the abandoning of paranoid attitudes to the world, the renewed interest in different forms of prayer, liturgical reform, emphasis on the responsible use of freedom, ecumenical initiatives, and all the other ideas and activities which had hitherto been either inaccessible or forbidden to us. Now, it would appear that we are returning to an authoritarian era where the Church will meet its problems, not by discussion and open investigation but by decree. Fr Tony Flannery is the latest to learn this lesson. Nevertheless we "hang in there".
In a shipwreck one does not give up one’s seat in the lifeboat merely because the crew have delusions of grandeur. In the last analysis many of us traipse on because we still believe in the possibility of a synthesis between the essential truths of our religion and the essential truths of modernity.
A century ago a great Irishman, Fr George Tyrell spoke of his dream for the Church: "When the Catholic people represented by their bishops and their Pope will assemble, not to decide and impose points of theology, ethics and politics "under the pain of eternal damnation", but to proclaim the gospel of God's Kingdom upon earth as it was proclaimed by Jesus Christ; to preach unity in essentials, liberty in non-essential things, charity in all things".
That seems to be as good a programme as any that might be put forward in church circles today or any day.

The two Captains of the Vatican Titanic Ship
John Paul II and Benedict XVI Cardinal Ratzinger

Vatican Titanic Ship hits icebergs in New York and Ireland !!!

Cardinal Dolan is not the Prince of New York…All roads no longer lead to Rome

There's not a thing Joseph Ratzinger can do to stop Roman Catholic women from becoming Roman Catholic priests. Alleluia. Alleluia.

"God's Rottweiler" seized an opportunity during Holy Week to growl, whimper and call upon Roman Catholic dissidents to choose "radical obedience" to the Magisterium over fidelity to such causes as women's ordination, compulsory celibacy for priests and divorce. Two years ago Joseph Ratzinger declared the discussion of women's ordination over. Is the pontiff changing his tune? According to the The New York Times the group at whom Ratzinger's snapping is aimed is an Austrian group called Preachers' Initiative.
The initiative was started in 2006 by the Rev. Helmut Schüller, the former director of a Catholic aid agency, Caritas Austria, to combat a shortage of priests. Since then, more than 400 Austrian priests have endorsed him, according to news media reports, as well as priests in the United States and across Europe.
The Vatican fears that the initiative could cause a schism in the church. Father Schüller has called the
Vatican an "absolutist monarchy" and said that the church's resistance to change might lead to rupture

Does Ratzinger really fear a schism? It is hard to know. An old man fighting a losing battle, Don Quixote-style, Ratzinger may be too out of touch to genuinely fear a schism. Even so, he must be quaking even if just a little in those scarlet shoes because when it comes to selling "radical obedience" (to the Magisterium) to most Roman Catholics, Ratzinger hasn't a prayer! "Radical disobedience" is fast becoming the norm in the church Ratzinger is said to lead. Whole religious orders and individual priests are thumbing their noses at this pontificate in increasing numbers.

Many experts on the Vatican think Ratzinger has been yearning for some kind of unofficial schism for decades. Many believe think he was the brains behind the John Paul II pontificate and that Ratzinger was militating for a purer more Magisterium-honoring church long before he became pope. But Catholics who leave take their money with them, for which reason a weird "good cop-bad cop" zeitgeist has ensued. One one hand, we have hard-line cardinals like Timothy Dolan cracking down in "sin cities" like New York; on the other hand we have slick "Come home" campaigns designed to make Catholic worship appear more cozy.

Ratzinger has a problem in the form of a growing trend wherein Catholics under protest stick around, refusing to let the hierarchy take their church from them. Often these Catholics are active on parish pastoral councils and in liturgical and social justice ministries. Often they are catechists entrusted with formation, and their message of conscientious disobedience filters down, in nuanced and hard-to-govern ways, to children and adults preparing for the sacraments.

For these Catholics "radical obedience" to Christ supersedes "radical obedience" to Joseph Ratzinger.

Not quite two years ago, Ratzinger dug in his heels as he reminded Roman Catholic priests that even engaging in the debate about the ordination of women was a form of disobedience. He compared the severity of this transgression to that of juvenile rape. The bishops had taken up the question, he told us, and the matter was closed.

As he reminds Catholics all over the world, this week, that the church does not have the authority to ordain women, Ratzinger comes off like a teacher in an loud unruly classroom who raises her voice when she should be lowering it.

The pope has lost control of the class.

Most North American and European Roman Catholics support women's ordination and believe it is only a matter of time before the Vatican ordains women. Many of Roman Catholicism's most accomplished theologians and bishops believe there are no substantive theological impediments to ordaining women.

So why does Ratzinger bring it up now?

The Vatican is beginning to recognize that disobedience in the church is now the norm. In the United States and Europe, from whence most Vatican income streams, there are far more excommunicated Catholics in the pews than there are doctrinally-compliant Catholics.

Disgusted Catholics in North America and Europe are leaving the church in droves. The chance is slim that a generation growing up now -- amid the pedophilia crisis and the wars on gay marriage and contraception -- might be more faithful to the Magisterium than were their parents.

Increased media attention to the fiscal corruption in the Vatican is hurting the Holy See, siphoning off what little credibility the Vatican has left.

Many dissident Catholics who might once have left the church are now electing to stay. They don't expect to change the Vatican's mind, but changing the pope's mind in order to change the church is no longer seen by radically disobedient Catholics as necessary.

Many parishes are all but run by women. Gay married Catholics work as catechists, lectors and ministers of Holy Communion. Male Roman Catholic priests serve as spiritual ministers to Roman Catholic women priests. Elderly Roman Catholic nuns are active in the Women's Ordination movement. "Radically disobedient" (to the Magisterium) Catholics are finding community and safety in numbers. Each year these numbers increase. With greater and greater frequency, we see "radically disobedient" Catholics hiding their "plain truth" in plainer sight. "Radically disobedient" Roman Catholics often contribute "time and talent" in lieu of cash to their parishes. They are changing the church while declining to kick back to the Vatican.

The increased media attention to Vatican fiscal impropriety has helped the "radically disobedient" church along. Certainly church history has taught us that dogma and doctrine become malleable when great sums of cash are at stake. While Joseph Ratzinger and ilk might prefer selling Absolution to caving in to the demand to ordain women, the Vatican might have to change its mind on women's ordination for economic reasons.

The juvenile sexual abuse crisis will become more and more expensive for the church. Apparently the problem of juvenile sexual rape by priests in African nations and India is ongoing, severe and just beginning to come to light. When the scope of the scourge of child abuse and juvenile rape in the developing world comes to light, the Vatican is likely to take a huge hit. If (when!) these human rights cases are finally heard in the Hague, the defendant (the Vatican) stands to lose a fortune.

When it comes to fighting Catholic dissidents, the Vatican is also out of ammo. Take excommunication, example, the threat of which has almost entirely lost its sting.

It is possible that the majority of Roman Catholics in the North America and Europe who will attend Easter Mass this year will be self-excommunicated Catholics.

If they have used birth control, have had abortions, support legalized abortions, are women priests, have taken Communion at a mass celebrated by a woman priest, are gay and sexually active, are single and sexually active, are divorced and remarried -- or are married outside of the church -- and receive Communion on Sunday they risk self-excommunication. A priest who knowingly gives Communion to those he knows are are culpable of the aforementioned "sins" also risks self-excommunication. What that means is that vast number so priests, bishops and pastors are also excommunicated.

The Vatican has already lost the battle to keep women out of the priesthood. Vocations among women are up; among men, they are down. Conservative Catholic spokespersons enjoy ridiculing the hundreds of women who have been ordained but even they know that such ridicule is a blessed badge of honor in Roman Catholic history, hagiography and tradition.

Show me a saint, and I'll show you someone who in his or her lifetime was taken as a wack-job.

As the Vatican loses its ability to punish them, dissident priests become emboldened. Take, for instance, Father Roy Bourgeois. For three years the Vatican has sought to make an example of the Nobel Prize-nominated founder of SOA Watch (a group that works to shut down WHINSEC, the former School of the Americas, an academy for torture.) The Vatican has strong-armed Father Bourgeois's Maryknoll order, demanding that they defrock Father Bourgeois for the transgression of attending and supporting women's ordinations. Maryknoll, an order with an uncommonly Christ-like commitment to social justice, took a lot of heat from all Catholic sides about moving to defrock Bourgeois -- all the while supporting this him in defending himself against forced laicization.

It now appears that the Maryknoll order will refuse to defrock Father Bourgeois.

Strong Roman Catholic precedent for saying "no" to the pope (so as to say "yes" to Christ) is being set. Ratzinger knows that the Roman Catholic priesthood originated as a result of "radical disobedience."

Although the pope may honestly believe the church lacks the authority to ordain women, he can not deny that the rogue character of the Woman's Ordination movement reflects the tradition, history and origins of the Roman Catholic (mostly male) priesthood. Lockstep Catholics can say that women who are ordained through Roman Catholic Womenpriests are not "real priests," but the truth is that the male priests and bishops, who have themselves been ordained by bishops in the apostolic succession, beg to differ.

And there's not a thing Joseph Ratzinger can do to stop Roman Catholic women from becoming Roman Catholic priests.

Alleluia. Alleluia.
