Cardinal Dolan has sold his soul to Mormon millionaire Mitt Romney by going to lead the closing prayer of the Republican Convention in Tampa, Florida, a first for a sitting President of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the USA. And the Mormon judge in Oregon has also sold his soul to the Vatican Mammon by decreeing that the Vatican is not the employer of priests. Nice religious bed fellows those fanatic Catholics and fanatic Mormons.
Thank storm Isaac for disrupting Romney’s TV monopoly coverage, after all Mitt Romney and Cardinal Dolan and their fanatic followers are GAY haters and misogynists who are planning to clamp down on women’s rights and GAY rights – by tooting on either the unborn (against abortion) or on the dead (canonization of false saints like John Paul II and other useless saints in the calendar.)
Benedict XVI silenced Liberation Theology priests because they were “political” and because priests are not suppose to be involved directly with politics or overtly with politicians and are suppose to care only for the spiritual aspect of their flocks. So Cardinal Dolan going to pray at the GOP convention is total hypocrisy and double standard for priests and those Cardinals who have political “diplomatic immunity” and who rub elbows with the echelon of politics. May the UN United Nations soon remove the Vatican as a “country”

Patting the bishops on the back for following the charter is like thanking your landlord for installing smoke detectors after your apartment building burns down. The bishops as a body deserve little credit for responding at least 10 years too late when the combination of public and financial pressure finally forced them to respond to the crisis of clerical sexual abuse.

Cardinal Dolan has decided that among his first official acts, is to endorse Catholic League and Bill Donohue through his latest blog post entitled "Catholic League Reports on SNAP Deposition". This means that as a pretend-prince of the Catholic Church, he and Donohue will together "downplay and manage the rape and torture of children and uphold instead, the primacy of the Catholic Vatican institution, its power, standing and 'reputation'" and together they will feed "the dysfunction, disconnection, elitism....the narcissism that dominate the culture of the Vatican to this day" -- exactly as the Prime Minister of Ireland declared before the Irish Parliament about the Vatican beast, watch the video and read his speech here http://jp2m.blogspot.com/2011/07/irish-pm-blasts-narcissism-of-vatican.html.

In my blog post yesterday, I set forth some reasons why it wouldn't be a good idea for the nation's Catholic bishops to attack SNAP. While I didn't expect them to take my advice, I was surprised to learn of Cardinal Dolan's latest blog post. The post is entitled "Catholic League Reports on SNAP Deposition". Is the Cardinal now a cub reporter for a fledgling paper soon to rival the NY Times? Actually, that wouldn't be nearly as bad as the truth.
The reality is that Cardinal Dolan wants to appear objective and merely report what the Catholic League is writing about SNAP. Dolan wants to appear as a third-party while behind the scenes pushing his pal Bill Donohue to center stage for the world to witness his vitriol. At least Donohue has the courage of his convictions even though they are hateful and inaccurate. Dolan doesn't even make a comment in his blog post about the Catholic League article. Instead he re-prints a lengthy section of it with links to the entire article at the end. It's important to note that in the linked article Donohue calls David Clohessy, a friend of mine and a man of integrity, a con man. He offers no proof of course, he just makes a personal attack. I'm not Catholic but I always thought that kind of behavior was considered sinful by Donohue's church.
Making matters worse, this is the article Cardinal Dolan wants everyone to read. He wants to spread this attack on David Clohessy by highlighting it on his own blog. Of course, he doesn't get his hands dirty by repeating the attack.(Remind you of any Biblical figure?) Pilate, err, Dolan maintains the plausible deniability of a coward. He doesn't actually write it, he rather points in the direction of the one slinging the mud, encouraging others to read along. This is the President of the nation's Conference of Bishops. He's the one leading the crusade on moral issues. You can decide for yourselves what that makes him.

Cardinal Turns Other Cheek On Snub By Irish-American Lawmakers
In one part of my interview with Cardinal Dolan that did not make this morning’s column, New York’s archbishop said he holds no grudge at group of Irish American state lawmakers who chose not to honor him at its annual dinner tonight.
“I didn’t pay much attention to it,” Dolan said of the snub. “I got a good number of calls from lawmakers saying ‘we didn’t’ intend this.’ ”
My column two weeks ago detailed how it looked like Dolan was set to be celebrated as the guest of honor at tonight’s New York American-Irish Legislators Society dinner. Ultimately, however, the decision was made to instead honor liberal civil rights lawyer Brian O’Dwyer--a move that upset some members of the organization who felt it was an insult given Dolan’s ascension to cardinal this year.
While there was no formal vote, several lawmakers have said the main reason Dolan wasn’t chosen is that some members didn’t want to anger Assemblywoman Margaret Markey, the Queens Democrat who is the group’s past longtime president.
Markey has long been battling the Church over her bill to extend the statute of limitations for past victims of priest sexual abuse.
Assemblyman Michael Cusick, the Staten Island Democrat who chairs the society this year, said that Dolan ultimately wasn’t chosen because the cardinal had to be in Washington, D.C. tonight for a national conference. Insiders say Cusick, who supported the idea of honoring Dolan, was upset the matter became public.
Dolan turned the other cheek. He said he has enjoyed going to the dinner in the past and would have gone tonight if he didn’t have to be in Washington for his role as head of the Conference of Catholic Bishops.

The Empire State Building has snubbed a request to turn their lights red in honour of the newly appointed New York Cardinal Timothy Dolan at his return this week from the Vatican.
The building's tower lights are regularly coloured in recognition of events, individuals, charitable organizations, countries, and holidays leading to New York Representative Michael Grimm's request for the cardinal's honour which was denied.
Tonight, as they were last night, the building's lights will instead be set at white, which is their colour when not in celebration.
The snub was seen as just that to some religious leaders, however, with the Catholic League's Bill Donohue slamming the building's Lighting Partner Committee and building owner Anthony Malkin.
'There’s no question that they’re much more at home honouring mass murderers there at the Empire State Building and I’m not being facetious,' Mr Donohue told WCBS.
'They honoured Mao Zedong and others for the 60th anniversary of the Communist Revolution here a few years ago, who took with him 77 million innocent Chinese men, women, and children,' he said.
The building's lighting for China's Communist Revolution was in 2009.
The lighting board says they do not publically recognize religious figures, organizations and holidays, 'outside of its tradition of lightings for the religious holidays of Easter, Eid al-Fitr, Hanukah and Christmas...' according to its website.
Some of the upcoming displays New Yorkers will see will be for National Eating Disorders Awareness Week, with green, blue, green, the 125th Anniversary of Hearst Corporation, with blue, blue, blue, and St Patrick's Day, with green, green, green.
'To show how utterly clueless Malkin and his crew are, the Empire State Building will honour St. Patrick for three days next month, March 16-18.
'Who do they think St Patrick was? A closet secularist?' the Catholic League responded in a news release Friday.
'Giving up is not in my DNA,' Representative Grimm responded himself to the deny while announcing that the Port Authority has obliged to light the One World Trade Center tower, still in construction, red until Friday.
'Where there is a will there is a way, and One WTC is even more appropriate as a symbol of hope, courage and the bright future of New York, all of which Cardinal Dolan exemplifies,' said Rep Grimm.
Since returning to the United States, Cardinal Dolan has sparkled as a religious celebrity and New York pride with one National Catholic Reporter saying 'there is something qualitatively different about the speculation surrounding Cardinal Dolan in New York right now,' John Allen, the paper's senior correspondent told Fox News.
With a decline in Pope Benedict XVI's public events, chattered speculation of the 84-year-old's replacement has rippled, with the newly appointed New York cardinal viewed by some as a potential bright spot for the church with his upbeat demeanor and 'rock star' appeal.
'With Timothy Dolan there is some of the [Pope John Paul II] magic,' Mr Allen said. 'This guy is a rock star in any room he walks into. He exudes charisma, it's almost as if its charisma on steroids. At a time when the Catholic Church is suffering from an image problem I think a lot of people see in Dolan someone who can put a positive face and voice on the Catholic message.'
Delivering a prayer and speaking Saturday at St Patrick's Cathedral in Manhattan, Cardinal Dolan shared his appointment and celebration with the city calling New Yorkers 'the real princes.'
'I come from a town in St. Louis that boasts, 'This Bud's for You.' But I say to you this morning, New York, that this hat’s for you... I’m proud to call you 'Your Eminence,'' he said to praise and laughter according to DNA Info.com.
Rising in just a decade's time from local bishop to Archbishop, there may be more than wishful thinking by Americans in Cardinal Dolan being the next and first American Pope. But the same may go for any of the other possible electives - notably the now 30 dominating Italian cardinals under the age of 80 possibly hoping to take back the papacy.
In Cardinal Dolan's playful response to questions while in Rome of his possible appointing: 'non parlo inglese,' he said in Italian, meaning 'I don't speak English.'

Actions Speak Louder than Words:
UNITED STATES
Boys Don't Tell
Boys Don't Tell
Randy Ellison
I’ve been reading a lot of articles lately on how much the Catholic Church is doing to repair the damage to it’s public image. They wish to show us how repentant they are over what they have been doing to our children. There are conferences in Rome where bishops listen to survivors and a really great press release by Archbishop Diarmuid Martin of Dublin who actually seems to “get it”.
Now, this morning , there is a particularly nauseating press release out ofNew York by His Excellency Archbishop Timothy Dolan. Mr. Dolan reports on his conversation with NY Governor Cuomo regarding a bill to extend the statute of limitations on child sex abuse five years until age 28: “And the governor listens. He’s a good lawyer. He reminded us of his allegiance to classical jurisprudence that would see a great benefit in the protection of the statute of limitations to see that the innocent of protected and that justice is done.”
Dolan also said the bishops have been “contrite” in admitting the church has handled molestation scandals poorly, but is trying to do more now — and isn’t getting credit for that: So it does bother us that the church continues to be a “whipping boy”…
Really? In arguing against a five year extension of the statute of limitations for victims of child sexual abuse Mr. Dolan describes The Church as needing protection and justice because as hard as they try, they are still just a “whipping boy”? Interesting turn of a phrase if you ask me, and very skillful use of vocabulary to make The Church out to be the victim, in all the child sex abuse claims. Are you serious? After decades of child rape, deviant torture, beatings and destruction of human dignity, life and the theft of souls of helpless children “His Excellency” wants us to view The Church as the victim? And just to top it off he ends the press conference with “Last year when I was here, there were some refreshments up on that shelf, what happened to them?” aka; what happened to the booze?

Cardinal Dolan’s Gamble
NEW YORK
Minnesota SNAP
By Vinnie Nauheimer
April 5, 2012
The subtleties of Cardinal Dolan’s mind are unmatched. New York’s newest comedic cardinal has outdone himself in devising a strategy to bring the house down at Last Supper services on Holy Thursday. Cardinal Dolan, never accused of being shy, has come up with an incredibly unique way to imprint the message of the Last Supper on the minds of New York’s Catholic elite who attend services on Thursday at St. Patrick’s. All we can do is marvel at Dolan’s sharp and rapier like wit. After asking God to allow Judas to speak on the subject of betraying Christ and being turned down, Dolan came up with the perfect living substitute. He invited Cardinal Justin Rigali in his stead!
Let’s hear it for the newly minted cardinal for having the audacity to pull off a stunt like this! Who better to speak about the betrayal of Jesus Christ than the disgraced former head of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia? Who knows more about turning his back on the teachings of Jesus Christ than Cardinal Rigali whose former diocese is now steeped in disgrace and scandal? Disgusting graphic reports hit the papers on a daily basis as testimony is given describing the seamy underbelly of the church and sexually disturbed priests having lurid sex with minors. Excellent qualifications for someone to speak to the betrayal of Jesus. What will this pitiful, contemptuous former Vatican secretary to the pope have to say about his equivalent of thirty pieces of silver?
Speculation is running wild about the light that Rigali can shed on what makes a man turn his back on Jesus Christ while throwing children to the wolves in a manner that is the polar opposite of being a Good Shepard. Is it me Lord? That was the question Judas asked. Are there anymore offending priests still working in Philadelphia was the question. NO, was Rigali’s answer and yet several months later, when forced to, he announce not one, not two or three priests, but two dozen priests were to be suspended. Like Judas saying is it me, Rigali knew of his guilt.
One can only commend Dolan on finding such a suitable replacement to speak on Judas’ behalf. Of course, we could say it was divinely inspired, but we don’t want to take anything away from Dolan. However, it is our sincerest wish that Dolan does not have the rug pulled out from under him by Rigali. If Rigali can turn his back on his God, what assurances can Dolan have? What happens if at the last moment Rigali decides that he doesn’t want to explain his reasons for betraying Christ? What happens if he gets up and tries to play the role of a Good Shepard? What if he tries to tell New York Catholics how they should behave? How they should be more Christ like? Will Dolan’s reputation be able to withstand the shock? New Yorkers appreciate good theatre, but what bombs in Philly generally doesn’t float in New York. So it will be with Rigali.
Dolan is gambling on a Judas. Will Rigali speak to his betrayal of Christ, children and Catholics around the world or will he play Dolan for the fool by playing the Good Shepard?
Stay tuned!

Stay tuned!

Benedict, who turns 85 in April and is showing signs of his age, elevated the men to the highest Church rank below him at a ceremony in St. Peter's Basilica known as a consistory.
"Cardinals are entrusted with the service of love: love for God, love for his Church, an absolute and unconditional love for his brothers and sisters, even unto shedding their blood, if necessary (in defense of the faith)," the pope told the new cardinals before giving them their rings and red birettas, or hats. (What a pathological lie of Benedict XVI)
"Furthermore, they are asked to serve the Church with love and vigor, with the transparency and wisdom of teachers, with the energy and strength of shepherds, with the fidelity and courage of martyrs," he said.
The new cardinals are from the
Secret conclave Eighteen of them are aged under 80 and thus will be eligible to enter a secret conclave to elect the next pope from among their own ranks.
Twelve of those are Europeans, bringing the number of "cardinal electors" from the continent to 67 out of 125.
With the new appointments, Benedict, who was elected in a secret conclave in 2005, has now named more than half the cardinal electors. The others were named by his predecessor John Paul.
Compared to the 67 "cardinal electors" from Europe, Latin America now has 22, North America has 15, Africa has 11, Asia has 9 and

At the ceremony, the pope told the new cardinals that while they will cooperate closely with him in "the delicate task" of governing the worldwide Church, they must first and foremost be men of religion.
"May your mission in the Church and the world always be "in Christ" alone, responding to his logic and not that of the world, and may it be illumined by faith and animated by charity which comes to us from the glorious Cross of the Lord," he said.
Benedict also asked for prayers so that he can guide the Church "with a firm and humble hand".
Leaked letters allege corruption The consistory, usually a joyful event, is taking place under a cloud because it follows a spate of leaked letters alleging corruption in the
Numerically, at least, the pope has increased the chances that the next pontiff will be a conservative European but there have been surprises in past conclaves.
The pope is a conservative on matters of faith and sexual morals such as birth control, homosexuality and the ban on women priests. Each time he names cardinals he puts his stamp on Roman Catholicism's future by choosing men who share his views.
Besides Dolan, other prominent new cardinals are John Tong Hon, archbishop of Hong Kong, and Rainer Maria Woelki, archbishop of

Popes usually reign for life but in a book last year, Benedict said he would not hesitate to become the first pontiff to resign willingly in more than 700 years if he felt himself no longer able, "physically, psychologically and spiritually", to run the Catholic Church.
Several popes in recent history, including the late Pope John Paul, considered resigning for health reasons, but none did so.
The last pope to resign willingly was Celestine V in 1294 after reigning for only five months. Gregory XII reluctantly abdicated in 1415 to end a dispute with a rival claimant to the Holy See.

Dolan Calls Child Victims Act "Unjust" To Church
BY Celeste Katz
Timothy Cardinal Dolan hit Albany for a round of lobbying on issues close to the heart of the Catholic Church, with those ranging from abortion to same-sex marriage. Per our Glenn Blain, Dolan also spoke at length about a subject arguably as controversial as either of those: The Child Victims Act, which would extend the statute of limitations in clergy sexual abuse cases.
“We feel that this is terribly unjust. It singles [out] the church and it would be -- and I use the word purposefully -- devastating for the life of the church," Dolan told reporters gathered in the LCA, as you can see from the pic at right from Blain's Twitter feed.
"And the governor listens. He’s a good lawyer. He reminded us of his allegiance to classical jurisprudence that would see a great benefit in the protection of the statute of limitations to see that the innocent of protected and that justice is done," he said.

N.Y. archbishop fights child abuse legislation
People's World

In a meeting with New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, Democrat, Cardinal Timothy Dolan stressed that he was resolutely opposed to the proposed Child Victims Act, which, he says, "unfairly" targets the Catholic Church.
"We feel that this is terribly unjust. It singles [out] the church and it would be, and I use the word purposefully, devastating for the life of the church," Dolan told reporters.
In actuality, the bill neither explicitly targets nor mentions the Catholic Church. However, due to the church's ongoing abuse scandals, the bill it would likely cost the Cardinal Dolan's diocese and others a good deal of money by making it easier for victims of pedophile priests to bring charges.

Morning spit-take, Day 2: Cardinal Dolan pats bishops on back for "good work" on sex abuse

Yes, he did. After listening to an address by the current chair of the National Lay Review Board, Al J. Norton, exhorting the bishops to stick to the requirements imposed by the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People, Dolan thanked him for "challenging us to keep up the good work." I'm sure Dolan was thinking of the excellent examples of Justin Rigali, Francis George, and Robert Finn, among others, sitting in the assembly before him. (You can review our special section on the sex abuse crisis, along with our June feature about the success and failures of lay review boards for a more accurate account of the past 10 years.)
Spare me: Patting the bishops on the back for following the charter is like thanking your landlord for installing smoke detectors after your apartment building burns down. The bishops as a body deserve little credit for responding at least 10 years too late when the combination of public and financial pressure finally forced them to respond to the crisis of clerical sexual abuse. Even then the bishops gave themselves the equivalent of a free pass.
Of course, Dolan is simply continuing the march toward an Orwellian echo chamber at the USCCB, where the bishops hear only themselves and few handpicked laypeople about the condition of the church. Further sign of 1984, Catholic Church edition, was the objection raised by some bishops when Bishop Stephen Blair of Stockton, California suggested an election year message on poverty. Several bishops worried about appearing to criticize the GOP in an election year--wouldn't want that--so the bishops have decided to draft a message for release AFTER the November elections (see the link above, end of the story).
No joke. Are you starting to see a pattern? I think my worries about John Carr's departure from the conference are well-founded, and the USCCB gathering can now be properly referred to as the Republican Party at prayer. Perhaps they can invite Rep. Paul Ryan to give the invocation. I hear he is Catholic.

It’s hard to know whether to laugh or cry at the news out of Atlanta that the Bishops of the United States are going to spend the hard earned money of United States Catholics for an image makeover and an “always available” spokesperson.
We’re not kidding, here are the links:
Reuters – “Bishops Plan PR Campaign to Soften Image” LINK
Los Angeles Times – “Perhaps We Need Help with PR, Say Catholic Bishops in the US,” LINK
Does anything say counter cultural better than having your very own public relations guy or gal?
We imagine the logo behind the Bishops’ eternally on call presence at a podium will be “In PR We Trust” superimposed on a cathedral cupola edged in lace, of course.
“ We need someone who is going to be able to strategize this better for us,” said Bishop William Murphy of the Diocese of Rockville Centre in Long Island, N.Y.
Drum roll, please for the understatement of the decade.
