When the CSC paid the $19 million to their hundreds of victims of CSC pedophile priests last May, they paid cash!!
To think that we are in the 21st century -- with already the separation of Church and state… but the secular governments – that of Canada - is still kowtowing to the powers of Catholic priests and allotting taxpayers’ money to their religious caprice is mindboggling!
There is no need for a tower lookout at the Oratory (where people have to pay to enter) when there is already the top of Park Mount Royal that is free for the public year round even during winter.

There are now only a handful of active but over 70 years old Caucasian Quebecers or
French Canadian priests of the Congregation de Sainte-Croix (CSC or Congregation of the Holy Cross), the religious family of “Saint” Brother Andre, left administering the Oratory. Younger CSC priests have been imported from Haiti and India to say the daily masses at the Oratory. Other than the CSC priests, the Oratory has about 50 employees, administrators, office clerks, communication directors, the museum, the stores, gardeners, and their well-paid payroll is several millions of dollars each year (so insiders sources say!)
For the first time in the history of the Oratory, a black Haitian priest, Claudel Petit-Homme has been appointed Superior of the CSC members at Oratory and he is the most arrogant and rudest priest on the planet. CITY, Italy -- Prime Minister Stephen Harper raised the troubling findings of
the residential schools commission during his unusually brief meeting with Pope
Francis at the Vatican Thursday, but appeared to have stopped short of inviting
him to Canada to apologize.
Instead,
Harper referred to letter sent earlier in the week to the Vatican by his
aboriginal affairs minister that merely informed the Holy See of the
commission.
"Prime
Minister Harper also drew attention to the letter sent by Minister (Bernard)
Valcourt to the Holy See regarding the Truth and Reconciliation
Commission," Harper's office said without elaborating.
Harper's spokesman did not respond to a request for clarification.
Harper's 10-minute meeting with the Pope Francis
was unusually short by Vatican standards. Russian President Vladimir Putin had
a nearly 50-minute private audience with the pontiff a day earlier.

if Harper would make that request during his scheduled meeting with the Pope
Thursday.

Affairs Minister Bernard Valcourt responded by saying he had written to the

Introduction
For over a
century, the central goals of Canada’s Aboriginal policy were to eliminate
Aboriginal governments; ignore Aboriginal rights; terminate the Treaties;
and, through a process of
assimilation, cause Aboriginal peoples
to cease to exist as distinct legal, social, cultural, religious, and
racial entities in Canada. The establishment and operation of
residential schools were a central element of this policy, which can best be described as “cultural genocide.”
Physical
genocide is the mass killing of the members of a targeted group, and biological
genocide is the destruction of the group’s reproductive capacity. Cultural genocide is the destruction of
those structures and practices that allow the group to continue as a group.
States that engage in cultural genocide set out to destroy
the political and social institutions of the targeted group. Land is seized, and populations
are forcibly transferred and their movement is restricted. Languages are
banned. Spiritual leaders are persecuted, spiritual practices are forbidden,
and objects of spiritual value are confiscated and destroyed. And, most
significantly to the issue at hand, families are disrupted to prevent the
transmission of cultural values and identity from one generation to the next.
In its
dealing with Aboriginal people, Canada did all these things.
Canada asserted control over Aboriginal land. In some
locations, Canada negotiated Treaties with First Nations; in others, the land
was simply occupied or seized. The negotiation of Treaties, while seemingly
honourable and legal, was often marked by fraud and coercion, and Canada was,
and remains, slow to implement their provisions and intent.1
On occasion, Canada forced First Nations to relocate their
reserves from agriculturally valuable or resource-rich land onto remote and
economically marginal reserves.2
Without legal authority or foundation, in the 1880s Canada

The Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRC) has
released a summary of its final report into the history and legacy of Indian
residential schools. The first paragraph in the Introduction describes Canada’s
entire Aboriginal policy and its implementation as “cultural genocide.” The TRC
defines that term as “the destruction of those structures and practices that
allow the group to continue as a group.” This includes seizing lands, the forcible
relocation of populations, restrictions upon movement, banning languages and
spiritual practices, disrupting families and the removal of children.
This is strong language but Chief Justice Beverley
McLachlin and former Prime Minister Paul Martin have both used the same term in
recent months.
Beyond words to action
Justice Murray Sinclair, the TRC chair, has made numerous
speeches and provided many interviews over the past several weeks and he has
said repeatedly that what Canada needs now is move beyond words and apologies
to action and reparation.
A major TRC recommendation, which appears repeatedly
throughout the report, calls on governments across Canada to adopt and
implement the 2007 United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous
Peoples. The TRC says that the UN declaration “is the framework for reconciliation at all levels and
across all sectors of Canadian society.”

Back in 2008 Prime Minister Stephen Harper apologized to
Canada’s aboriginal peoples for Ottawa’s role in trying to “kill the Indian in
the child” by removing 150,000 children to residential schools where cultural
assimilation was the goal and 6,000 perished. He called it a “great harm” and
vowed his support for communities that are struggling to this day to recover.
“We are now joining you on this journey,” he pledged.
Yet when the Truth and Reconciliation Commission issued its
report this week calling for a bold new era in Crown/native relations, Harper mustered little more than an indifferent shrug. He
took credit in Parliament for setting up the commission. And he defended his
government’s record, saying “vast amounts of money” have been earmarked for
jobs, schooling, and health.
But he didn’t say a word at the commission’s
closing ceremony. Unlike Supreme Court Chief
Justice Beverley McLachlin, he
couldn’t bring himself to utter the words “cultural genocide.” And apart
from throwing a token $1 million to the National Centre for Truth and
Reconciliation to help house its records, he didn’t endorse any of the commission’s 94
recommendations.
This was a
missed opportunity to showcase Ottawa’s willingness to invest more than lip
service in the new, healthier relationship the commission called for
with the country’s 1.4
million indigenous people. Canadians expect better of their leadership.

Some of the youngsters were locked up in cells like animals
or beaten severely, and everyone had to eat oatmeal, day and night.
But former students of the Mohawk Institute Indian Residential
School in Brantford, like Audrey Hill, still want to preserve the building that
housed these horrors decades ago.
“At first I
was so very ashamed (of the building). I would have been one of the people
saying ‘why would you save that?’ Now, I’m completely supportive of saving
it,’’ says Hill, 61, a Mohawk who was sent to the now defunct residential
school at age 10 by her mother.
Known at the time as the “mush hole” — a nickname given by
aboriginal students who were forced to eat mushy oatmeal all day — the building
stands for everything that was wrong with Canada’s residential school system:
brutal racism, forced assimilation, and utter disdain for indigenous culture,
customs and language.

What
happened to Indigenous Peoples in Canada was nothing short of “cultural
genocide,” Supreme Court Chief Justice Beverley McLachlin said in a recent speech.
She may be the highest-ranking federal official ever to use the term,
according to The Globe and Mail.
“The most
glaring blemish on the Canadian historic record relates to our treatment of the
First Nations that lived here at the time of colonization,” McLachlin said in the annual Pluralism Lecture of the Global Centre
for Pluralism. “An initial period of cooperative inter-reliance grounded in
norms of equality and mutual dependence, was supplanted in the
nineteenth century by the ethos of exclusion and cultural annihilation.
Early laws forbade treaty
Indians from leaving allocated reservations. Starvation and disease were
rampant. Indians were denied the right to vote. Religious and social
traditions, like the Potlach and the Sun Dance, were outlawed. Children were taken from their parents
and sent away to residential schools, where they were forbidden to speak
their native languages, forced to wear white-man’s clothing, forced to observe
Christian religious practices, and not infrequently subjected to sexual abuse.”
The well-known objective, she noted, was to "take the Indian out of the child" and eradicate what came to be known as the “Indian problem.”
“ ‘Indianness’ was not to be tolerated;
rather it must be eliminated,” McLachlin said of the prevailing attitude during those times. “In the buzzword of the day, assimilation; in the language of the 21st
century, cultural genocide.”

A commission established to document the truth of what

Justice Murray Sinclair, the chair of the Truth and
Reconciliation Commission (TRC), set up as part of the settlement agreement
with survivors of the former church-run schools, will release his
recommendations Tuesday after a five-year inquiry into the sexual, physical and
emotional abuse that was rampant within the institutions.
The summary report, which will be followed by a full report
later this year, will explain the measures necessary for reconciliation between
Canada and its indigenous people, many of whom were permanently scarred by the
residential-school experience. It will say that, for more than
a century, the central goal of Canada’s aboriginal policy was assimilation
“which can best be described as a cultural genocide.”
The pronouncement comes on the heels of a speech last week
by Beverley McLachlin, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, who said Canada
attempted to commit “cultural genocide” against aboriginal peoples in what she
described as the worst stain on Canada’s human-rights record.

Ceremonies in Ottawa today wrap up five years of
work by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission,
but it’s not the end of the process, just the beginning. And where that process
goes depends on actions, not mere words, by Canadians and their governments.
Pressure must be maintained on the federal government, in
particular, to ensure the commission’s recommendations are heeded.
The
commission, born in part from lawsuits on Vancouver Island, was formed to
examine and bring to public consciousness the darkest chapter in Canadian
history, when official policy set out to erase aboriginal cultures and
languages, to “kill the Indian in the
child.” For more than 100 years, First Nations, Inuit and Métis children
were removed from their families and sent to government-funded, church-run
residential schools, some of them hundreds of kilometres from their homes.
The schools
were established, as noted by the commission, “with the purpose to eliminate
parental involvement in the spiritual, cultural and intellectual development of
aboriginal children.”
The first
day of school is often portrayed as a happy moment, but for thousands of
aboriginal children, it was terrifying. They were forcibly taken from their
families and thrust into a bleak, unfamiliar world, kept like prisoners in
residential schools until they were teenagers. Many knew no language but their
own, and they were punished, often harshly, if they spoke their own tongue.

Vatican embassy in Ottawa says it will send the Truth and Reconciliation
Commission’s report to Rome.
A
spokesperson at the embassy did not have an immediate comment about the
recommendations aimed at the Church including a call for Pope Francis to come
to Canada to issue an apology to “survivors.”
The TRC report
said the apology should be “for the Roman Catholic Church’s role in the
spiritual, cultural, emotional, physical, and sexual abuse of First Nations,
Inuit, and Metis children in Catholic-run residential schools.”
The report
is calling for the Pope to issue an apology “similar to the 2010 apology issued
to Irish victims of abuse and to occur within one year of the issuing of this
report.”
In the report released Tuesday, the three TRC Commissioners
aimed a number recommendations at churches in Canada that had ties to
residential schools.

no one has found the remains of the brothers Charles and Tom Ombash who ran
away from an Indian residential school in Sioux Lookout, Ont., on Oct. 5, 1956.
School officials waited for about a month before notifying
police and Indian Affairs.
At least 33
students are recorded to have died by running away from residential schools.
Most succumbed to exposure.
There were other ways Indigenous children attending
residential schools died. In 1949, Rodney Beardy, 15, was killed in a tractor
accident at an Indian residential school in Brandon, Man. School fires also
killed at least 40 students.
Disease,
particularly tuberculosis, was the main cause of death for likely thousands of
children who attended residential schools.

OTTAWA — Canada’s former policy of forcibly removing
aboriginal children from their families for schooling “can best be described as
‘cultural genocide.’”
That is the conclusion reached by the country’s Truth and
Reconciliation Commission after six years of intensive
research, including 6,750 interviews. The commission published a summary version on Tuesday of
what will ultimately be a multivolume report, documenting widespread physical,
cultural and sexual abuse at government-sponsored residential schools that
Indian, Inuit and other indigenous children were forced to attend.
The schools, financed by the government but run largely by churches, were in operation for more than a century,
from 1883 until the last one closed in 1998.
The commission found that 3,201 students died
while attending the schools, many of them because of mistreatment or neglect
— the first comprehensive tally of such deaths.
The report links the abuses at the schools, which came to
broad public attention over the last four decades, to a number of social,
health, economic and emotional problems afflicting many indigenous Canadians
today. And it concluded that while some of the teachers and administrators at
the schools were well intentioned, the overriding motive for the program was
economic, not educational.

Over the past six years, thousands of former residential
school survivors shared their stories with the Truth and Reconciliation
Commission. Many former students talked about how residential schools tore
apart their lives and the lives of their families, sometimes talking about
their experiences for the first time.
Now, after six years of listening to those stories, the
Truth and Reconciliation Commission has released its final report.
Ted Quewezance is the former chief of the Keeseekoose First
Nation. He went to residential school himself and headed up the National
Residential School Survivors Society. He travelled to Ottawa to be there for
this historic event.
He told CBC he is left with a big question. "How are
the churches reconciling directly with families and communities right across
this country?"

Quewezance said he is looking for action from the present
government beyond an apology. "We've had commissions go across this
country and we've been studied to death, instead of recommendations we want to
know what the actions are going to be? "The whole issue of reconciliation
is about housing about our healthcare and about our children," said
Quewezance.
He said he wants to see work being done for First Nation
people in Saskatchewan and across the country who need it most. "How do we
reconcile within our communities with the people who are very poor, that are
very hungry, the ones that live 10-15 people in a home, the people who are on
drugs [...] That's the target group."

Before the reconciliation of people comes the reconciliation of narratives.
We turned away from the stories of the survivors of residential schools. We told ourselves other stories,
stories about good intentions and unfortunate mistakes. That work of
reconciling our story-telling to fit the historical truth falls mainly to
non-Aboriginal Canadians now, and that is only the beginning.
We Canadians wanted to believe that abuse was the aberrant
work of cruel individuals, not the policy of an entire nation. We forgave the
overt racism of our lauded forefathers, saying it was a different time – as if
morality is relative, as if “don’t starve children” was an axiom too advanced
or enlightened for the people who built this country.
The summary
report from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission refocuses that lens of
history, making the truth uncomfortably sharp and clear. Thousands of children
died. Some children were deliberately kept undernourished, to make a “baseline”
for nutritional research. Children’s names and languages were beaten out of
them. The residential schools were not a mistake. They worked precisely as
intended, as one tactic in a strategy that Canada’s chief justice has
accurately called cultural genocide.
Every Aboriginal person in Canada lives today with that
legacy; every non-Aboriginal person does too, although they may not realize it.
The legacy is there in the overrepresentation of Aboriginal children in foster
care systems, and in the shocking stories about those systems that have
recently made headlines in Alberta and Manitoba. It is in Canadians’ widespread
ignorance of Aboriginal languages, names, practices and stories; that knowledge
of this country’s heritage and culture has been stolen from all our children.
It is in our correctional system, in the suicide and diabetes statistics. The
government of this country deliberately broke families and communities, and
that damage has not yet healed.

most troubling chapters in our collective history."
The report is the result of a six-year study of Canada's
former government policy requiring Canadian Indians to attend the schools,
often the scenes of physical and sexual abuse. Indian leaders have cited the
legacy of abuse and isolation as the root cause of epidemic substance abuse
rates on reservations.
From the 19th century until the 1970s, more than 150,000
aboriginal children were required to attend Christian schools to rid them of
their native cultures and integrate them into Canadian society.

malnutrition, abuse, illness and even death was a key part of a government-led
policy that amounted to cultural genocide, the Truth and Reconciliation
Commission concludes.
“These measures were part of a coherent policy to eliminate
Aboriginal people as distinct peoples and to assimilate them into the Canadian
mainstream against their will,” says the 381-page summary of its final report
released Tuesday in Ottawa.
“The Canadian government pursued this policy of cultural
genocide because it wished to divest itself of its legal and financial
obligations to Aboriginal people and gain control over their land and
resources,” says the report.
The heart-wrenching
and damning report is the culmination of a six-year examination of the
history and legacy of residential schools — largely operated by churches and
funded by the Canadian government — that saw 150,000 First Nations, Métis and
Inuit children come through their doors for more than a century.
Through the testimony of residential school survivors,
former staff, church and government officials and archival documents, the Truth
and Reconciliation Commission pieced together a horrifying history that,
despite its rippling effects, has been repeatedly dismissed or ignored.
It also describes how the legacy of residential schools
continues, not only through the direct effect that generations of
institutionalization and abuse has had on survivors and their families, but how
it is manifested in racism, systemic discrimination and poverty, as well as
dying indigenous languages.

The
massive final
report of the inquiry into horrors of church-run, government-funded native
residential schools should just be the starting point for improving how we
teach our history, First Nations community members say.
“It’s about awareness,” said Andrea Chrisjohn, board
designate of the Toronto Council Fire Native Cultural Centre. “Education is
really critical.”
“It’s all about education,” said Paula Whitlow, museum
director of the Woodland Cultural Centre in Brantford. “Racism still exists. We
still deal with it every day in some form.”
Chrisjohn, Whitlow and Gordon Peters, Grand Chief of the
Association of Iroquois and Allied Indians, all said that the effects of
residential schools are still felt widely in First Nations communities.
Education is an essential starting point to making things
better, they said.
“You can’t have Canada built on a foundation of lies,”
Peters said. “That’s what Canada is right now. They teach these lies to the
children.”

Residential
school survivors continue to battle federal lawyers who failed to provide
documents which could potentially validate claims of abuse at the hands of
school staff.
This comes on the heels of the Truth and Reconciliation
Commissions report released earlier in the month.
Two groups of
survivors who attended separate Indian residential schools allege Ottawa is
still not living up to the terms of the settlement agreement which set out a
process for determining compensation for abuses suffered by survivors at Indian
residential schools. The groups say federal lawyers continue to withhold
documents from the Independent Assessment Process.

Canada's residential-school system has released a summary of its six-volume
report, the culmination of six years of study of the church-run,
government-funded institutions, which operated for more than 120 years.

— Establish a Royal Proclamation of Reconciliation

The most
horrific stories of abuse at residential schools may never become public as the
Truth and Reconciliation Commission prepares for a legal battle this fall to
block the destruction of key documents.
Even though the commission wrapped up four days of closing
ceremonies this week and has released its final recommendations, it is still
fighting in court to preserve sensitive transcripts of stories told by nearly 38,000 former students. But not all former students
support the TRC’s position and the legal case has created unusual alliances.

Providence, NWT in 1921. The Canadian government funded such institutions from the
1870s to the 1990s, which saw more than 150,000 children taken from their
homes.
The
government of Canada is also seeking to preserve the documents, while Catholic churches and the Assembly of
First Nations have expressed concern
about their potential release.
At issue are the specific stories of former students who
suffered sexual abuse or severe physical abuse that were told during private hearings called an Independent Assessment Process.
The adjudicated hearings were set up through the same out-of-court residential
schools settlement that created the commission. Former students
were eligible for financial compensation based on the severity of the abuse
they suffered.

A Superior
Court judge has ordered Ottawa to perform additional searches for RCMP
documents pertaining to allegations of abuse at a residential school at Moose
Factory, Ont., in the 1960s.
Ottawa lawyer Fay Brunning is acting on behalf of claimants
who say they witnessed events related to the alleged severe beating of a child
at the now defunct Bishop Horden Indian Residential School. Some of the
claimants say they saw numerous employees or supervisors of the school
subsequently fired and or criminally charged.
Brunning had argued in a factum that the Indian Residential
Schools Settlement Agreement called for Ottawa to scour its historical records
for documents pertaining to the schools including “at the very least” documents
about abuse.
But Brunning argued the federal government didn’t meet its
legal obligations to do so. Only records kept by Libraries and Archives Canada
and Indian Affairs were searched as part of the compensation process, she
argued.

A day before the Truth and Reconciliation Commission is set
to release its highly-anticipated report on Canada’s residential schools, the
national chief of the Assembly of First Nations said he hopes the report’s
recommendations will be “respected, honoured and implemented.”
Perry Bellegarde said there is no point in producing the report if no one acts
on it. He told a news conference Monday that he wants Canadians to put
pressure on provincial and federal governments to improve the lives of
aboriginal people and help build a “better relationship.”
“We have a shared history and we have a shared
responsibility going forward,” he said.
Speaking to CTV’s Power Play later, he said he hoped the
federal government would act. But if not, he said First Nations would mobilize
for the fall election.
“Because if we do get out to vote, there are 51 ridings
that could be affected,” he said.
The TRC’s final report on the residential school system
will be released Tuesday. The commission has been travelling the country for
nearly six years, collecting testimony from thousands of survivors of the
residential school system, many of whom were physically and sexually abused.

Closing the social and economic gap is a linchpin in
reconciliation between aboriginal people and the rest of Canada, AFN Grand
Chief Perry Bellgarde said Monday on the eve of the Truth and Reconciliation
Commission releasing its final report.
"I urge
everybody across Canada to rid themselves of things like the misconceptions about
indigenous peoples, the discriminatory, racist attitudes that may exist, to
move them out so that new things may come in,"
Bellgarde said at a news conference in Ottawa.
A march in
Ottawa on Sunday drew thousands of aboriginal and non-aboriginal people,
drawing attention to this week's conclusion of the six-year-long Truth and
Reconciliation Commission, which will release its final report and
recommendations on Tuesday after hearing testimony from 7,000 former students
of residential schools.
The march was "a very powerful testament about what we
can do when we start working together to bring about change in this
country," Bellgarde said.

for Canada's treatment of its first peoples is over
and must make way for a
change in behaviour, the chair of the Truth and Reconciliation
Commission said on the eve of his long-awaited report's release.

"But the next step, reconciliation,

Five years
and $60 million have gone into the six-volume study of Canada's residential

The commission that has spent five years examining one of
the darkest chapters in Canada's history is winding up its work with a key
question left unanswered — exactly how many aboriginal children died in
residential schools?
Justice Murray Sinclair, who heads the Truth and
Reconciliation Commission, says the federal government stopped recording the
deaths around 1920 after the chief medical officer at Indian Affairs suggested
children were dying at an alarming rate.
"He was fired," Sinclair says. "The
government stopped recording deaths of children in residential schools, we
think, probably because the rates were so high."
Sinclair has
guessed up to 6,000 children may have died at the schools but it's impossible
to say with certainty.
"We think this is a situation that needs further
study," he said.

Sudbury's Church of the Epiphany bells to
ring 1,181 times for missing, murdered aboriginal women
A Sudbury church hopes the sound of its bells will help
people take a moment to understand the damage inflicted by Indian residential
schools.
Anglican churches across the country, including the Church
of the Epiphany in Sudbury, will spend the next three weeks using their bells
to honour the 1,181 missing or murdered aboriginal women and girls in Canada.
"Each time you hear the bell, that is a human life
that we are marking, that we are not allowing to be forgotten," said Derek
Neal, ministry intern at the Anglican Church or the Epiphany in Sudbury.
"We hope that it will bring attention to this issue.
It may prompt people to ask questions. That it will also simply stir in
peoples' hearts a spirit of remembrance for these women."
The project by the Anglican Church of Canada, which they
are calling 22 Days, coincides with the closing ceremonies of the Truth and Reconciliation
Commission (TRC) in Ottawa from May 31 to June 3.
The commission was created to document the stories of
residential school survivors and to aid in the healing and reconciliation for
aboriginal and non-aboriginal people.

The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) has
responded to the final report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of
Canada, which was established in 2008 to examine the treatment of Native
Americans in religious residential schools.
From 1884 to 1948, Canadian law compelled Native Americans
to send their children away from home to residential schools, most of which were Catholic or Anglican institutions. The
last residential school closed in 1996, and in 2009, Pope Benedict apologized for “the deplorable
conduct of some members of the Church.”
“Seventeen dioceses and 37 religious institutes”
were “involved in managing and helping to operate
the former Indian Residential Schools which were under the jurisdiction of the
Government of Canada,” the CCCB stated in a notice posted on its website.

the beginning of the healing process for aboriginal survivors of Canada's
residential schools.
But for some, like Ottawa's Archbishop Terrence
Prendergast, the report and its recommendations spark debate.
Postmedia Network sat down with the city's ninth bishop to
discuss his perspective on the issues surrounding the report. The responses have
been edited for space.
Q: One of the recommendations in the report asks for Pope
Francis to issue an apology to aboriginal Canadians on behalf of the Catholic
church, despite Pope Benedict having issued one back in 2009. Do you agree with
this recommendation?
A: I didn't know there was going to be this other request
from the Pope and what struck me as rather demanding in the apology is that
they wanted it delivered within a year in Canada and that they wanted it to
address certain things, like the spiritual abuse they suffered.
Q: Why did this particular recommendation stand out to you?
A: Because I look for things that touch the church. I know
the report does say that the church for them is important, but they also asked for royal
proclamation from the Queen, but don't make the recommendation that she come to
Canada and make a statement like they're asking of the Pope.

The closing ceremonies of the Truth and Reconciliation
Commission are taking place in Ottawa from May 31 to June 3. The Most Reverend
J. Michael Miller, C.S.B., Archbishop of Vancouver, has issued a statement to
recall the commitment of the Archdiocese of Vancouver to reconciliation,
justice and dialogue with First Nations. In addition to the statement, the
Archdiocese of Vancouver is also participating in a number of events marking
the end of the Truth and Reconciliation process: Rennie Nahanee, the
Archdiocese of Vancouver's coordinator of First Nations ministry, is taking
part in the official closing ceremonies in Ottawa; the Catholic schools in the
Archdiocese created "Heart Garden" remembrance projects for
residential school children who died, with pupils writing messages on paper
hearts to plant in school gardens; and the Archdiocese will take part in an

Confession
is a tradition normally associated with Catholicism, but Christians from across
the faith came together Sunday in Vancouver to confess to centuries of harm
committed against Canada’s aboriginal population.
“We confess the smallness of our hearts which only have
room for so few of God’s beloved children. We confess the damage we have caused
to the First Nations of this land, which continues to destroy lives today,”
reads a line in a prayer of confession led by Presbyterian, Anglican and United
Church clergy in a multi-faith service at St. Andrew’s-Wesley United Church.
“God have mercy on us. Create new hearts within us,” the
congregation of hundreds responded.
The service was part of a daylong event anticipating
release of the Truth and Reconciliation Committee’s final report, set for
Tuesday, after six years of research into Canada’s residential schools.

All Canadians are victims of Indian residential schools —
whether you attended one of the schools, whether you're an inter-generationally
affected relative, a
parent left behind or a non-aboriginal person in Canada who was fed a false history.
It's important to also acknowledge much of the 96 per cent of Canada's population that isn't aboriginal have had their
perceptions of indigenous people and communities altered in a negative way,
because they haven't grown up knowing the role their government played in
killing the Indian in the child. The government that they learned about in
school was a lot more mean spirited and malicious than many Canadians could
ever imagine.
This weekend is the conclusion of the Truth and
Reconciliation Commission (TRC) and has many people asking the question:
"What next?" The spotlight will shine on the courage and resilience
of survivors and I hope the rest of Canada is paying attention.
When the TRC began, only 49 per cent of Canadians knew
about residential schools. Over six years later, I hope the hard work of the
commission can be articulated with clear recommendations for community and for
government to realize together. When I think of what our next collective step
is I believe there are a few answers.
1) There can
be no reconciliation until our women and children are safe:
This means we have to work together to address the
normalized violence that has led to the astronomical number of missing and
murdered indigenous women.
The
solutions must include the voices of our women. It also means addressing the
alarming rate of kids in the care of Child and Family Services in Manitoba —
over 10,000 kids need our help to get healthy or back to their family.

A court ruling has compelled the federal government to
search RCMP records for evidence of abuse at Bishop Horden Indian Residential
School in Moose Factory, Ont.
The ruling comes after a group of former students asked an
Ontario Superior Court to ensure the federal government was doing all that is
required to search for and disclose evidence related to residential schools.
The nine former students involved in the case attended
Bishop Horden residential school in Moose Factory, Ont. in the 1960s and say
they suffered physical or sexual abuse.
"The finding that the federal officials have been in
breach of their documentary disclosure obligations is very important to the
clients I am representing," said lawyer Fay Brunning in an email.
"If a child was abused and someone reported it to the
police, of course documents were generated."
The former students had claimed the federal government is
obliged to provide information about the former residential school, the people
that worked there and any charges or convictions on record.

OTTAWA — Stephen Harper can only have one item at the top
of his agenda when he visits the Vatican next week.
The prime minister must formally invite Pope Francis to
travel to Canada to apologize for the role of the Catholic Church in this
country’s shameful residential schools era.
It is a demand of the commission and it has the backing of
church leaders in this country.
Harper’s position — that he will wait for the final report
of the commission later this year before reacting — looks like a bid to move
this off his plate until after a federal election.
But there is no need to wait on this request.
The Roman Catholic church has often appeared to
be, first and foremost, consumed with protecting the Roman Catholic church and initially church leaders here seemed headed along that same
path when Justice Murray Sinclair called for an apology from Pope Francis, on
Canadian soil, within a year.
They equivocated, explaining it was up to the church in
Canada, not the Pope, to deal with this, that the Truth and Reconciliation
Commission didn’t understand the decentralized nature of the church or the
autonomous nature of the bishops, that the demand was “bold” and putting a
deadline on such a gesture made it that much more difficult.

Pope Francis, Pope Benedict XVI and Pope John Paul II, now
a saint, have apologized in the past 25 years for all manner of wrongs done in
the name of the Catholic Church over the centuries.
Those sins include clerical sex abuse of children in the
United States, Ireland, Australia and elsewhere. Historical persecution of
Orthodox Christians, Muslims, Protestants, Jews, Roma and others. Abuse of
women. The cowardice some Christians showed during the Nazi Holocaust. The
slave trade. Missionary abuses of indigenous peoples. And the condemnation of
Galileo, who challenged the false idea that the Earth is the centre of the
universe.
These apologies didn’t always live up to the hopes of those
who were wronged. But they were an expression of official contrition that went
some way toward acknowledging the Church’s human frailty, healing the hurt, and
setting the historical record right.
Canada’s 80,000 aboriginal survivors of the church-run
residential school system deserve no less. And Prime Minister Stephen
Harper should seek a papal apology on their behalf when he meets Pope Francis
on Thursday.
Some 150,000 children were ripped from their families in a racist attempt to
“kill the Indian in the child” that was abetted by Catholic and other Christian
clergy, and 6,000 died in the schools. Many were abused emotionally, physically
and sexually. It was a dark chapter in our history.
The Anglican Church in Canada has long since apologized.

Army is the largest religious pedophile ring on the planet earth – thanks to
its cooperators of popes, cardinals and bishops who covered it up and its

The new tribunal set up by Pope Francis to judge and
discipline bishops accused of covering up or failing to report pedophile
priests –– is an insult to long-suffering countless victims, a farce, a sham
and a mockery to The Hague, The United Nations, the International Criminal
Court, the Ramsey County Office of the Attorney, and all civil courts of law
and justice –– because it will not examine the known decades old past cases –
and not try the already guilty cardinals and bishops who admitted guilt in
public or who have been found guilty by civil courts of law in cities, counties
and countries including the United Nations.
“Cultural genocide” or to
“kill the Indian in the child” was the Modus Operandi of other zealous
Vatican Empire Roman Catholic missionaries throughout the world ––– from the
Jesuits’ “first apostle to the east” St. Francis Xavier to the Franciscans’
Junipero Serra in California ––– and to all holy named Vatican mercenaries in Asia, South America and
Africa. It’s the same story for the
American Indians in Fort Shaw, Montana, where it is inscribed in its museum ––

For five consecutive generations,
from roughly 1880 to 1980, Native American children in the United States and Canada were forcibly taken from their families and
relocated to residential schools. The stated goal of this government program
was to “Kill the Indian to Save the Man.” Half of the children did not
survive the experience, and those who did were left permanently scarred. The resulting alcoholism,
suicide, and the transmission of trauma to their own children has led to
a social disintegration with results that can only be described as genocidal.

“Imposing the Nation Pattern of the Oppressor”
The resemblance of residential schools to military
facilities extended far beyond haircuts and uniforms. Captain Pratts
prototypical Carlisle Indian Industrial School, which opened its doors in
November 1879 and in many respects served as the template for what followed,
was actually established in an unused army barracks in Pennsylvania. So, too,
were a number of others, such as those at Fort Shaw, Montana, and Fort Lewis, Colorado. Even
those, like the Chilocco Indian Agricultural School (Newkirk, Oklahoma) and the
Phoenix Indian Industrial School (Arizona), constructed specifically for the
purpose to which they were put, were visibly patterned after military
compounds. Although less
conspicuous there, the situation in Canada—insofar as “dormitories” were
typically built along the lines of barracks bays, if nothing else — was
similar. The layouts of most “campuses,” geometrically precise and
incorporating such features as parade grounds, were thus unabashedly designed
to convey a sense closer to regimentation than to mere “orderliness.”
More to the point, perhaps, was the fact that the children
actually were regimented in military fashion. Almost without
exception, photos of the youngsters attending Carlisle during Pratts
tenure show them assembled in ranks, awaiting inspection or
instructions, or marching in lockstep from one point to the next.
Moreover, as every newcomer quickly discovered, “nearly every aspect of
his [or her] daily existence—eating, sleeping, working, learning, praying—would
be rigidly scheduled, the hours of the day intermittently punctuated by a
seemingly endless number of bugles and bells demanding this
or that response.”
The children were awakened between five and six in the
morning and went to bed between eight and nine at night. In between
there was little time for recreation. The daily routine was very much like a
military school. “You are drilled to the dining room for breakfast . . . and
then you are drilled to the school yard,” a Santa Clara woman recalled of
the Santa Fe Indian School. During the Sunday dress parade at
the Albuquerque Indian School, each student carried a “dummy rifle” and
was “dressed up like a regular army.” At Haskell Institute the military
organization was even more rigorous. Every student at this school was in a
regular army outfit, and in 1922 eighty of the older Students were in a
special machine-gun company, which had undergone two weeks training with
the Kansas State Militia the previous summer.
” ‘It was a military school, wrote Helen Sekaquaptewa of
the Phoenix Indian School, which she began to attend in 1915. ‘We marched to
the dining room three times a day to band music. We rose to a bell and had a
given time for making our beds, cleaning our rooms, and being ready for
breakfast. Everything was done on schedule, and there was no time for
idleness.’ Boys and girls lined up in uniform each Sunday morning. The
boys saluted and the girls held out their hands to be checked; the ‘officers’
noted every flaw in appearance [emphasis original].” “We dressed, we ate, we
drilled, we studied and recited our lessons with a precision that left not one
minute without its dudes,” recounted another former student. “Pupils needed a
pass to leave the campus, and were expected to salute teachers, officers, and
fellow students ‘with proper respect.” Others have written bitterly about the
“cold and bullying staff, more like army superiors than mentors.”
Pratt and his superiors sought to justify their imposition
of a “Prussian” regime with glowing descriptions of the “health benefits,
ability to concentrate, and self-confidence” supposedly imparted thereby, while
more can- did—or honest—observers extolled the “virtues” of “patriotism” and
“obedience” being systematically hammered into previously “wild” youngsters. As
students at the Sherman Institute (Riverside, California) were informed in
1910:
Obedience is the foundation of the great law of life. It is
the common fundamental law of all organization, in nature, in military, naval,
commercial, political, and domestic circles. Obedience is the great essential
to securing the purpose of life. Disobedience means disaster. The first
disastrous act of disobedience brought ruin upon humanity and that is still
going on. “The first duty of a soldier is obedience” is a truth forced upon all
soldiers the moment they enter military life. The same applies to school life.
The moment a student is instructed to do a certain thing, no matter how small
or how great, immediate action on his part is a duty and should be a pleasure .
. . What your teachers tell you to do you should do without question. Obedience
means marching right on whether you feel like it or not.
Echoes of Commissioner Thomas Mortons earlier demand that
the residential schools take all possible steps to infuse native children with
a “fervent” U.S. patriotism are unmistakable. As might be expected, these
reverberations spilled over into the roughly two hours per day which in most
schools were devoted to “academic” instruction. Here, first emphasis was on the
“Three Rs”—reading, ‘riting and ‘rithmetic—with the goal of bringing all
students up to the rudimentary levels of proficiency necessary to allow them to
meet the needs of potential employers in the “real world.” As the
children progressed, increasing weight was placed on what were called the
“lessons of citizenship” or “civilization,” using texts like Horace E. Scudders
A History of the United States of America for the purpose. There, the
youngsters learned that the country was “peopled by men and women who crossed
the seas in faith [and that] its foundations [were] laid deep in a divine
order.” The “nation has been entrusted with liberty,” and that “carries with it
grave duties: the enlargement of liberty and justice is the victory of the
people over the forces of evil.”
What indigenous students were to make of the fact that
their own people—and thus they themselves—had not “crossed the sea” to get to
America, and whether it meant that they weren’t really “people,” but
rather formed the “forces of evil” that had to be overcome, were questions none
too subtly answered by Scudders depiction of the “Indian race”: “While the
tribes differed from one another, all the Indians were in some points alike.
They were brave, but they were treacherous. They could bear hunger and torture
in silence, but they were cruel in their treatment of captives . . . [thev
were] ignorant barbarians . . . like wild animals [who perpetrated gratuitous]
massacres,”and so on. Small wonder that the children came to identify far more
with the mythic legions of noble white men populating their textbooks and
classroom lectures than they did with the grotesquely distorted caricatures of
their own ancestors and traditions presented therein.
The incantation of “faith” and “divine order” as
cornerstones in the “proper” understanding of history and civics dovetailed
perfectly with the lessons delivered during the second half of the typical
instructional day—again, about two hours—which was explicitly devoted to the
proselytizing of Christianity. This, in turn, conformed not only to the fact
that implanting the “true faith” was integral to the overseers’ mandate to
“impose the national pattern” they represented, but with the fact that the churches
had established Indian residential schools as part of their missionary programs
long before governments of either the U.S. or Canada had set out to do so. In
both countries—partly to acquire the benefit of their experience, partly as a
cost-constraining expedient—these preexisting institutions and their
staffs/faculties were simply incorporated, usually on a contract basis, into,
the official system with the result that the churches were in this sense made
responsible for the fulfillment of official policy. Conversely, church
representatives were positioned to exert decisive influence in the formation of
educational policy as it pertained to Indian.
In Canada, “the residential school system was a creature of the
federal government even though the
children in the schools were, in most cases, in the care of the churches,”
while, in the U.S., the reverse may ultimately have been the case. “Even as the government edged the mission societies to the margin” in the U.S., however, “its
teachers also sought to imbue pupils with some form of Christianity. For
most secular as well as missionary educators, ‘civilization’
was inconceivable unless grounded in Christian . . . values.”
Consequently, and regardless of whether church or state was ascendant in
operating the schools at any given moment or location, the result was the same.
Even as they underwent a harsh and thoroughgoing process of deculturation (or
“denationalization”) the children were systematically “reenculturated” to
function in psychointellectual terms as “little white people.” Given the
virulently racialist constructions of role and place by which the U.S. and
Canadian settler societies were/are defined, of course, “white” was/is
something an American Indian child could never become. Thus, the
youngsters, both individually and collectively, were forced into the impossible
position of “fitting in” to neither their own society nor its ostensible
replacement.

during the late 19th and early 20th centuries to educate Native
American children and youths according to
Euro-American standards. They were first established by Christian missionaries
of various denominations,
who often started schools on reservations and founded boarding schools to
provide opportunities for children who did not have schools nearby,[2]
especially in the lightly populated areas of the West. The government
paid religious societies to provide education to Native American children on
reservations. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the Bureau of Indian Affairs
(BIA) founded additional boarding schools based on the assimilation model of
the Carlisle
Indian Industrial School.
Children were usually immersed in
European-American culture through appearance changes with haircuts, were
forbidden to speak their native
languages, and traditional names were
replaced by new European-American names (in order to both
"civilize" and "Christianize"). The experience
of the schools was often
harsh, especially for the younger children who were separated from their
families. In numerous ways, they were encouraged or forced to abandon their Native American identities
and cultures.[3]
The number of Native American children in the boarding schools reached a peak
in the 1970s, with an estimated enrollment of 60,000 in 1973. Investigations of the later twentieth century have revealed many
documented cases of sexual, manual, physical and mental abuse occurring at
such schools.[4]

US Wars in Afghanistan, Iraq to Cost $6 trillion

The decade-long American wars in Afghanistan and Iraq would end up costing as much as $6 trillion, the equivalent of $75,000 for every American household, calculates the prestigious Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government.
Remember, when President George Bush’s National Economic Council Director, Lawrence Lindsey, had told the country’s largest newspaper “The Wall Street Journal” that the war would cost between $100 billion and $200 billion, he had found himself under intense fire from his colleagues in the administration who claimed that this was a gross overestimation.
Consequently, Lawrence Lindsey was forced to resign. It is also imperative to recall that the Bush administration had claimed at the very outset that the Iraq war would finance itself out of Iraqi oil revenues, but Washington DC had instead ended up borrowing some $2 trillion to finance the two wars, the bulk of it from foreign lenders.
According to the Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government 2013 report, this accounted for roughly 20 per cent of the total amount added to the US national debt between 2001 and 2012.
According to the report, the US “has already paid $260 billion in interest on the war debt,” and future interest payments would amount to trillions of dollars. This Harvard University report has also been carried on its website by the Centre for Research on Globalisation, which is a widely-quoted Montreal-based independent research and media organisation.
In its report under review, the 377-year old Harvard University has viewed that these afore-mentioned wars had not only left the United States heavily indebted, but would also have a profound impact on the federal government’s fiscal and budgetary crises over a protracted period.
The report has attributed the largest share of the trillions of dollars in continuing costs to care and compensation for hundreds of thousands of troops left physically and psychologically damaged by the two wars being discussed here.
The report states: “The Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts, taken together, will be the most expensive wars in US history—totaling somewhere between $4 trillion and $6 trillion. This includes long-term medical care and disability compensation for service members, veterans and families, military replenishment and social and economic costs. The largest portion of that bill is yet to be paid.”
It asserts: “Another major share of the long-term costs of the wars comes from paying off trillions of dollars in debt incurred as the US government failed to include their cost in annual budgets and simultaneously implemented sweeping tax cuts for the rich. In addition, huge expenditures are being made to replace military equipment used in the two wars. The report also cites improvements in military pay and benefits made in 2004 to counter declining recruitment rates as casualties rose in the Iraq war.”
The authors of this report have warned that the legacy of decisions taken during the Iraq and Afghanistan wars would dominate future federal budgets for decades to come.
According to the Harvard University report, some 1.56 million US troops—56 per cent of all Afghanistan and Iraq veterans—were receiving medical treatment at Veterans Administration facilities and would be granted benefits for the rest of their lives.
It reveals:
“One out of every two veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan has already applied for permanent disability benefits. The official figure of 50,000 American troops “wounded in action” vastly underestimates the real human costs of the two US wars. One-third of returning veterans are being diagnosed with mental health issues—suffering from anxiety, depression, and/or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).”
The report notes that in addition, over a quarter of a million troops have suffered traumatic brain injuries (TBI), which, in many cases, were combined with PTSD, posing greater problems in treatment and recovery.
“Constituting a particularly grim facet of this mental health crisis is the doubling of the suicide rate for US Army personnel, with many who attempted suicide suffering serious injuries,” opine the report authors.
It maintains:
“Overall, the Veterans Administration’s budget has more than doubled over the past decade, from $61.4 billion in 2001 to $140.3 billion in 2013. As a share of the total US budget it has grown from 2.5 percent to 3.5 percent over the same period. Soaring medical costs for veterans is attributable to several factors. Among them is that, thanks to advancements in medical technology and rapid treatment, soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan have survived wounds that would have cost their lives in earlier conflicts.”
The Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government report has estimated: “While the US government has already spent $134 billion on medical care and disability benefits for Iraq and Afghanistan veterans, this figure will climb by an additional $836 billion over the coming decades.”
It notes that the largest expenditures on health care for World War II veterans took place in the 1980s, roughly four decades after the war, and that spending on medical care and disability payments for Vietnam War veterans was still on the rise.
Here follows the description:
“The most common medical problems suffered by troops returning from the two wars include: diseases of the musculoskeletal system (principally joint and back disorders); mental health disorders; central nervous system and endocrine system disorders; as well as respiratory, digestive, skin and hearing disorders. Overall, some 29 per cent of these troops have been diagnosed with PTSD.”
The report goes on to argue:
“Among the most severely wounded are 6,476 soldiers and Marines who have suffered “severe penetrating brain injury,” and another 1,715 who have had one or more limbs amputated. Over 30,000 veterans are listed as suffering 100 percent service-related disabilities, while another 145,000 are listed as 70 to 90 percent disabled.”
It reads:
“The worst of these casualties have taken place under the Obama administration as a result of the so-called surge that the Democratic president ordered in Afghanistan.”
It mentions that the Walter Reed Medical Centre, US Army’s flagship hospital at Washington DC, was treating hundreds of recent amputees and severe casualties, adding that this facility had received 100 amputees for treatment during 2010; 170 amputees in 2011; and 107 amputees in 2012.
The report has also stated that the US Marines have suffered an especially high toll.
The report points out:
“Massive direct spending on the two imperialist interventions continues. With over 60,000 US troops remain in Afghanistan, it is estimated that the cost of deploying one American soldier for one year in this war amounts to $1 million. These troops continue suffering casualties—including in so-called “green on blue” attacks by Afghan security forces on their ostensible allies. As they are brought home, they will further drive up the costs of medical care and disability compensation. The US is maintaining a vast diplomatic presence in Iraq, including at least 10,000 private contractors providing support in security, IT, logistics, engineering and other occupations; as well as logistics support and payments for leased facilities in Kuwait.”
In its conclusion, the report not only seeks to dispel illusions that ending full-scale wars in Iraq and Afghanistan would produce any kind of “peace dividend” that could help ameliorate conditions of poverty, unemployment and declining living standards for working people in the US itself, but makes it clear that the legacy of decisions made during the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts would impose significant long-term costs on the federal government for many years to come.

The study, part of the Costs of War Project by the Watson Institute for International Studies at Brown University, drew from actual expenditures from the U.S. Treasury and future commitments.
That $2 trillion figure comes from $1.7 trillion in war expenses and an additional $490 billion in benefits owed to war veterans.
An extra $4 trillion factors in to pay interest through 2053. The study notes that because the Iraq War appropriations " were not funded with new taxes, but by borrowing, it is important to keep in mind the interest costs already paid, and future interest costs."
The new study concluded that both the war and the subsequent $212 billion reconstruction effort were failures as the war "reinvigorated radical Islamist militants in the region, set back women's rights, and weakened an already precarious health care system" while "most of [the reconstruction] money was spent on security or lost to waste and fraud," according to Daniel Trotta of Reuters reports.
There are so many examples of waste and financial mismanagement in the war.
For example, when the U.S. invaded Iraq on March 19, 2003, the country's government owed Washington approximately $4 billion dollars— partially leftover from America's "loans" during the Iran-Iraq War.
The debt was forgiven post-"liberation," part of a concerted push of then-governor of the war Paul Bremer. He argued it would help "boost" the fledgling free market.

Mr. Janabi, who has been granted asylum in Germany, told the Guardian last year that he was exposed as a liar as early as mid-2000when his former boss at the Military Industries Commission in Iraq, Dr. Bassil Latif, told the German secret service that he strongly denied several claims made by Mr. Janabi.
Operation Iraqi Freedom, beginning in March 2003 and officially ending December 2011, cost over $820 billion and claimed the lives of over 100,00 civilians as well as 4,484 U.S. military personnel (with another 32,000 wounded), according to war reports analyzed by The Guardian.

Support the Kurdish people's resistance against ISIS, Condemn US and Turkey for creating and using ISIS

We, the International League of Peoples’ Struggle (ILPS), salute the heroic resistance of the Kurdish people and their army in Rojava, the YPG/YPJ – People’s Protection Units – against the criminal gangs of the so-called Islamic State (ISIS) in Kobane, one of the self-governing cantons of West Kurdistan (Rojava) in Syria.
We call on all the more than 300 ILPS member-organizations in 38 countries around the globe to take initiative and express their solidarity and support to the Kurdish people's resistance in Kobane and the whole of Rojava, or join the demonstrations being organized by the Kurdish liberation movement in different parts of the world.
The ILPS condemns the super-terrorist US for creating the ISIS monster that has rampaged through parts of Syria and Iraq, committing hideous crimes against the people in areas that they have overrun. We condemn Turkey for collaborating with the US in creating, arming and coddling this horde of terrorists.
ISIS and similar extremist Islamist terrorist groups like the Al Qaeda and Al-Nustra have been created by the US as part of its over-all scheme to remake the Middle-East, by carrying out regime change in such countries as Libya and Syria that have dared to assert their national sovereignty against imperialist plunder and war. For its part, the Turkish government is using ISIS to attack the Kurdish liberation struggle led by the PKK.
ISIS terrorists have been trained by US Special Forces in secret NATO bases inside Turkey and Jordan. For the last year and a half, the US has been developing what the world has now come to know as ISIS. Turkey has allowed safe passage through its borders of jihadists from different parts of the world to join ISIS, and has facilitated the transport of wounded ISIS terrorists to be treated in hospitals in the Turkish province of Urfa and other cities in Turkey.
The US is remaking the Middle-East in order to consolidate its hegemony in this oil-rich region. It is using the ISIS in the same manner as it has used Neo-Nazi gangs in the Ukraine to stir up trouble and force regime change, toppling the duly-elected president, and replacing him with a pro-Western president and a fascist military junta as part of US-NATO strategy to encircle and pressure Russia.
In the wake of the hideous crimes of the ISIS, including the massacre of Shiites and Christians, and the beheading of Western journalists, the US has pretended to adopt a policy of opposing ISIS and carrying out bombing raids against ISIS. In fact, the US is still thereby using the ISIS as the pretext to violate the national sovereignty of Syria.
The US war planes are actually bombing food granaries and buildings in Syria which are away from ISIS positions. They are now in a position to attack the forces of the Syrian government. Turkey has also exposed its real dirty agenda to attack the Kurdish liberation struggle by bombing PKK forces in Oramar (Daglica) near the border with Iraq, relieving ISIS from the successful counter-attacks of the Kurdish fighters and allowing the ISIS to block humanitarian aid from Iraqi Kurdistan.
The Kurdish resistance forces in Kobane have said that they can defeat the ISIS without any need for foreign intervention such as that falsely offered by the US and Turkey. All they need from Iraqi Kurdistan are sufficient weapons and ammunition against the tanks and vehicles mounted with big guns of the ISIS terrorists.
The terrible crimes being perpetrated by the ISIS and the support given them by the US and Turkey have aroused the anger of freedom-loving people throughout the world. At the same time, the heroic resistance of the YPG/YPJ – the People’s Protection Units – composed of Kurdish men and women, has inspired the people of the world to rally in support of the Kurdish liberation struggle.
The acknowledged leader of the Kurdish liberation struggle, Abdullah Ocalan, has called on the entire Kurdish nation to mobilize in support of the resistance in Kobane. Kurds throughout the world have responded by organizing demonstrations in many countries calling for international support.
We must show our solidarity to the Kurdish people in their hour of need and give them all-out support until victory.

The US Department of Defense (DoD) is funding Ebola trials on humans, trials which started just weeks before the Ebola outbreak in Guinea and Sierra Leone. The reports continue and state that the DoD gave a contract worth $140 million dollars to Tekmira, a Canadian pharmaceutical company, to conduct Ebola research. This research work involved injecting and infusing healthy humans with the deadly Ebola virus. Hence, the DoD is listed as a collaborator in a “First in Human” Ebola clinical trial (NCT02041715, which started in January 2014 shortly before an Ebola epidemic was declared in West Africa in March.
Is it possible that the United States Department of Defense (DOD) and other Western countries are directly responsible for infecting Africans with the Ebola virus? Dr. Broderick claims that the U.S. government has a research laboratory located in a town called Kenema in Sierra Leone that studies what he calls “viral fever bioterrorism”, It is also the town where he acknowledges that is the “epicentre of the Ebola outbreak in West Africa.” Is it a fact? Is Dr. Broderick a conspiracy theorist? He says that “there is urgent need for affirmative action in protecting the less affluent of poorer countries, especially African citizens, whose countries are not as scientifically and industrially endowed as the United States and most Western countries, sources of most viral or bacterial GMOs that are strategically designed as biological weapons.” He also asks an important question when he says “It is most disturbing that the U. S. Government has been operating a viral hemorrhagic fever bioterrorism research laboratory in Sierra Leone. Are there others?”
Well, Mr. Broderick’s claims seem to be true. After all, the U.S. government has been experimenting with deadly diseases on human beings for a long time, history tells us so. One example is Guatemala. Between 1946 and 1948, the United States government under President Harry S. Truman in collaboration with Guatemalan President Juan José Arévalo and his health officials deliberately infected more than 1500 soldiers, prostitutes, prisoners and even mental patients with syphilis and other sexually transmitted diseases such as gonorrhea and chancroid (a bacterial sexual infection) out of more than 5500 Guatemalan people who participated in the experiments. The worst part of it is that none of the test subjects infected with the diseases ever gave informed consent. The Boston Globe published the discovery made by Medical historian and professor at Wellesley College, Susan M. Reverby in 2010 called ‘Wellesley professor unearths a horror: Syphilis experiments in Guatemala.’ It stated how she came across her discovery:
Picking through musty files in a Pennsylvania archive, a Wellesley College professor made a heart-stopping discovery: US government scientists in the 1940s deliberately infected hundreds of Guatemalans with syphilis and gonorrhea in experiments conducted without the subjects’ permission. Medical historian Susan M. Reverby happened upon the documents four or five years ago while researching the infamous Tuskegee syphilis study and later shared her findings with US government officials.
The unethical research was not publicly disclosed until yesterday, when President Obama and two Cabinet secretaries apologized to Guatemala’s government and people and pledged to never repeat the mistakes of the past — an era when it was not uncommon for doctors to experiment on patients without their consent.
After Reverby’s discovery, the Obama administration apparently gave an apology to then-President Alvaro Colom according to the Boston Globe:
Yesterday, Obama called President Álvaro Colom Caballeros of Guatemala to apologize, and Obama’s spokesman told reporters the experiment was “tragic, and the United States by all means apologizes to all those who were impacted by this.
Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton had called Colom Thursday night to break the news to him. In her conversation with the Guatemalan president, Clinton expressed “her personal outrage and deep regret that such reprehensible research could occur,’’ said Arturo Valenzuela, assistant secretary of state for Western Hemisphere affairs.
 The study in Guatemala was led by John Cutler, a US health service physician who also took part in the controversial Tuskegee Syphilis experiments which began in the 1930’s. Researchers wanted to study the effects of a group of antibiotics called penicillin on affected individuals. The prevention and treatment of syphilis and other venereal diseases were also included in the experimentation. Although they were treated with antibiotics, more than 83 people had died according to BBC news in 2011 following a statement issued by Dr Amy Gutmann, head of the Presidential Commission for the Study of Bioethical Issues:
The Commission said some 5,500 Guatemalans were involved in all the research that took place between 1946 and 1948. Of these, some 1,300 were deliberately infected with syphilis, gonorrhoea or another sexually transmitted disease, chancroid. And of that group only about 700 received some sort of treatment. According to documents the commission had studied, at least 83 of the 5,500 subjects had died by the end of 1953.
Washington’s reaction to the report is a farce. The apology made to Guatemala’s government was for the sake of public relations. Washington knows about its human experimentations in the past with deadly diseases conducted by government-funded laboratories that are known to be harmful to the public. The U.S. government is guilty in conducting numerous medical experiments on people not only in Guatemala but in other countries and on its own territory. As the Boston Globe report mentioned, the Tuskegee Syphilis Study occurred between 1932 and 1972 by the U.S. Public Health Service to study the “natural progression” of untreated syphilis in the African American population. The U.S. Public Health Service and the Tuskegee Institute collaborated in 1932 and enrolled 600 poor sharecroppers from Macon County, Alabama to study the syphilis infection. However, it was documented that at least 400 of those had the disease (they were never informed that they actually had syphilis) while the remaining 200 did not. They received free medical care, food and even free burial insurance for participating in the study. Documents revealed that they were told that they had “bad blood” which meant that they had various medical conditions besides syphilis. The Tuskegee scientists continued to study the participants without treating their illnesses and they also withheld much-needed information from the participants about penicillin, which proved to be effective in treating Syphilis and other venereal diseases. The test subjects were under the impression that they were receiving free health care from the U.S. government while they were deliberately being lied to by the same administrators who were conducting the tests. Washington is fully aware of its human experimentations with deadly diseases. The government of Guatemala also knew about the Syphilis experiments according to the Boston Globe:
A representative of the Guatemalan government said his nation will investigate, too — looking in part at the culpability of officials in that country. The records of the experiment suggest that Guatemalan government officials were fully aware of the tests, sanctioned them, and may have done so in exchange for stockpiles of penicillin.
However, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services published the study ‘Fact Sheet on the 1946-1948 U.S. Public Health Service Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD) Inoculation Study’ and was forced to admit what happened in Guatemala during the syphilis experiments:
While conducting historical research on the Tuskegee Study of Untreated Syphilis, Professor Susan Reverby of Wellesley College recently discovered the archived papers of the late Dr. John Cutler, a U.S. Public Health Service medical officer and a Tuskegee investigator. The papers described another unethical study supported by the U.S. government in which highly vulnerable populations in Guatemala were intentionally infected with sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). The U.S. government admitted to its wrongdoing, 62 years too late. What Dr. Broderick wrote is not conspiratorial in any sense. The U.S. government has been involved in bioterrorism; Guatemala is a case in point. Dr. Broderick summarized what average people can do to prevent governments, especially those from the West from creating and exposing populations from diseases they experiment with in laboratories:

The situation is bleaker than we on the outside can imagine, and we must provide assistance however we can. To ensure a future that has less of this kind of drama, it is important that we now demand that our leaders and governments be honest, transparent, fair, and productively engaged. They must answer to the people. Please stand up to stop Ebola testing and the spread of this dastardly disease.
After Guatemala’s ordeal with the U.S. government who deliberately infected people with syphilis, West African nations should be extremely skeptical about the U.S. government’s actions combating Ebola. Professor Francis Boyle of the University of Illinois, College of Law questions the Obama administration’s actions in West Africa. RIA Novosti recently interviewed Boyle and he said the following:
US government agencies have a long history of carrying out allegedly defensive biological warfare research at labs in Liberia and Sierra Leone. This includes the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which is now the point agency for managing the Ebola spill-over into the US,” Prof. Francis Boyle said.
